Since the 5 free HD DVD promotion has now ended, they should be able to price the A3 at $49 as a cheap HDMI up-converter solution.

It would be nice to hear Toshiba release the number of HD DVD players they actually manufactured, not just the ones that have been sold.

I wonder how many of these things are currently sitting in warehouses throughout the country, and still there is the question if Toshiba has even ceased production yet, because in their press statement they said they were going to wind down production and be out of the HD DVD business by March 31.

That looks like there is still 1 month now until the end, how many more are out there to continue to be sold??

Watch them completely sell out, then revitalize the format with a studio purchase... Now that would be funny.

I somehow doubt that Toshiba will want to manufacture more $300 players to sell for $69. But that's just a guess on my part.

I can only base things on their 'official' press release that stated that they would be reducing quantities distributed to retail, and would finish up by the end of March '08.

If production ends by March 31st, they might still have some new inventory going into distribution.

Is still want to see the amount of players manufactured compared to the amount sold.

Are there 5000 units yet unsold, or 50,000 units yet unsold???

Ok, what I don't understand that the studios would drop the format now. Why not wait until the end of the year. Think about it, if Toshiba players completely sell out, they have already lost but, now there is over 2 million players in peoples homes. The studios are missing out on that opportunity to sell movies, reguardless that the format is dead. Over 2 million players out there, and no content? Maybe I'm crazy but, Toshiba has almost a 100% sell rate at 70% loss, but no content for those players....

Maybe it's because the Toshiba incentive well has dried up.

We got players, some movies...why stop releasing then?

Releasing in two formats would mean more money, since many of us already have a HD DVD player and won't spend top dollars for the blu anytime soon...and I thought studios were actually greedy...
