In a bit of a surprise, the best-selling release was the HD DVD edition of "American Gangster." However, Blu-ray demonstrated a strong week occupying the nine other places and representing 74% of the HD market.

It's good to see that even after everyone has dropped HD DVD it still occupies 26% of the HD market.

Yup. With 2/3 fewer players (or there abouts) in the installed player base. This all goes back to the numerous "attach rate" threads that were on this forum months ago. Intresting.

With Beowulf combined with residual sales from American Gangster, I wouldn't be surprised if HD DVD does even better than 23% next week.

How could anyone be surprised at this. The death of Hd-Dvd was a forced issue, not a market driven one. Backroom deals in corporate offices decided what was best for the consumer, not our dollars.

It really amazes me that the blu fanboys actually thought HD owners would get rid of our players and movies . Perfect picture, perfect sound, cheap to buy into, no brainer! I hate to say it again (just like blu ray hates to say buy a ps3 over and over), but HD DVD owners are going to snap up movie deals like crazy. When a good movie is released, it will do very well, even for a dead format. Next week, Beowulf

I want to wake up one morning and hear that movie studios and hardware manufacturers have finally seen past all the money Sony threw at them and realize HD DVD is still a viable format. I want to read that WB has decided to re-test the waters so to speak and continue releasing HD DVD's till the end of summer. Same with the other studios. Now that Blu has officially "won" Sony has turned down the heat and maybe people could see through the marketing hype and realize that Blu is indeed NOT better, and that the market needs more than a single format to continue to thrive.

Well, considering that HD-DVD is dead (from a studio / manufacturing / retailer perspective), I don't think us blu boys really care about the numbers anymore.

Congrats HD-DVD!!!

The only charts that would be used now would compare blu-ray to dvd sales and that would probably be somewhat embarassing for blu. I doubt we'll see any more charts for awhile.
