#7 for me...
Buy HD-DVD until they are gone, then add to the 19 BR's I have once sales begin rolling again.

I guess you're not such a Blu-ray hater after all. Based on some of your previous posts I could've sworn that you belonged in that category.

I don't know how I missed option 7, but those of you who chose it are absolutely right - many of the owners of one also have the other, and also still buy SD. I think that's where I'll be around Christmas. Otherwise, it looks like 2 and 6 are the frontrunners, so it would seem those who only had HD DVD are not jumping quickly to Blu. While SOME may dismiss these opinions as not representative of the consumers and consider all posters here lunatic fanboys because they don't agree with their opinions (nudge, Sky), I think it is a very good indication of what HD DVD owners are thinking, since people have always said this site is populated by a large percentage of them.

Hendrix,
Keeping this as short as possible. HD DVD and Blu-Ray are extremely comparable. I have no preference whatsoever. They both have fantastic HD detail however, the price point one offered over the other should and would have made universal adoption faster. That is common sense. In order for Blu-Ray to obtain saturation, the prices will need to fall substantially more over the next 2-3 years. However, coupled with the suggested retail prices of 50%-100% more than the SD DVD and weakened dollar, I suspect the average consumer will delay its adoption. Further, I suspect the monopolistic tendencies to artificially escalate prices will further retard its adoption. If you remember, CDs were cheaper to make than cassettes however, the prices charged never reflected this. Any price setting that may have been attempted was negated as result of the format war.
From a consumer's prospective, I am extremely irritated regarding the outcome of this format war. And, I will not purchase movies until I have forgotten about this little episode or until Sony makes a Blu-Ray player that is under $300 that won't be obsolete in less than 12 months.

None of the above...stop buying movies so that studios can get their act together and provide something worth buying (both movies and discs)...

That's a good post BengalBaron... and yes, economic conditions will play a part in 'how soon' people consider adopting into Blu-ray Hi-Def.
As for possible 'rising prices', yes of course it depends on the value of the dollar and inflation aspecs etc, but remember, once a title is released, the VALUE of a disc usually falls over the following months, and you can buy from an Amazon 3rd party seller (or eBay, half.com, etc), for between 25% to 50% of the original retail price, and usually lower than Amazon's own prices.
Sure, many want to buy a 'NEW release' day-and-date, so for the time being Blu-ray will cost a little more than SD-DVD, but you can save by buying online [usually no tax, and free shipping from some sites], and in time the MSRP prices will become lower (in my opinion).
