Falcon,

Quote:
Guys arguing with Skyhawk is futile. This guy spends every waking moment spinning anything he can into an anti HD DVD post. This guy after all claims that a 48KHZ audio signal upconverted to 96KHZ actually sounds worse than a 48KHZ signal. I tried to tell him that's like saying that a DVD upconverted to 1080i/P looks worse that if it was left at 480 lines of resolution. He couldn't get his head around that simple concept.

Can you link me to this post? I would like to read the discussion there.

Yes we know anything done improperly can make things worse, just like a DVD upconverted improperly may actually look worse that if it was left at 480 resolution but that is not the case. Upconverters have been doing good jobs for years now, it's not like this is new technology.

As far as the link to where he posted this I don't remember but it wasn't too long ago. It was during one of his rants that involved other people here so maybe someone else here can remember which thread it was in.

Yes please find the post in question. I also provided several credible links that I hope you enjoyed, including my discussion about DACs providing oversampling starting about what? 20 years ago?

Funny you were silent afterwards and didn't respond

I'm not trying to start a coup against Skyhawk but I've corrected his anti HD DVD BS many times so take his flamboyant posts with a grain of salt.

So me disagreeing that the average person can not perceive a difference between HD and non-HD sources is "anit HD DVD"? You are delusional.

The orginal post is here: http://www.dvdtown.com/messageboard/topic/5911/2/-1

Hopefully, Falcon enjoyed his lesson and actually learned something from that exchange.

Keeping it in simple terms,
Quote:
Upconverters have been doing good jobs for years now, it's not like this is new technology.

Look, I think that my A-35 offers an outstanding upconverted rendition of many (not all) new sds. I am very happy with that machine. Period. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and quite frankly, I don't even care about or even fully understand the technical issues behind upconvertion. If a new sd variant player appears with superior upconverting capabilities at a reasonable price, then yes, of course, I would be interested.

I assume that these new so called super upconverters would be based on a different or updated technology from what is currently available, so comparing their upconverting capablities to what is currently on the market is not really valid.

We'll just have to wait to see if they actually do appear, how well they perform and how they are marketed. Perhaps they will give BD a run for its money. Perhaps not. Their appearance would certainly piss off the hard core BD folks and most probably you will see a new internet flame war which will put this last one to shame. One way or the other, knowing for certain that these would be available would without a doubt, postpone my highly anticipated BD player purchase. I kinda think that is is not what the BD camp had in mind.

Hmmm...I have to say that I agree with Skyhawk, only a blind albino wouldn't see the difference between HD and SD.
However, MANY consumers don't CARE about the difference. In life you have all kinds of people, some of us drive BMW M3's and some of us Toyota Prius, people know the difference but choose what they can afford and what is important to them.

Me personally, I drive fast cars and I LOVE my hi def!

I can tell the difference between a slow car and a fast one! I just don't care for the difference though. True 4X4 functionality is much more important to me. And I'm not talking about that fake "AWD" upconversion either!
