I don't know what cable service you guys have, but I have Cox, and it comes in at 1080I, and almost rivals my BR or HDDVD quality here in New Orleans, seriously.

Blu-B... yeah it's HD, 1080i, but in no way rivals Blu-ray and HD-DVD (in my opinion) because of the deep COMPRESSION of the signal (especially noticeable on fast-moving images). I have Comcast cable, and all of these cable/satellite companies compressed the HD signal, and have never presented it in the best quality it's capable of.
While the hi-def disc formats use compression, it's done better than the cable/satellite companies, and almost all disc titles output a 1080p/24 signal (some are 1080i/60, like concerts etc). From what I've read, we will never see a 1080p/24 signal being output on cable or satellite.

LH, Agreed, BUT I am just saying that the Star Wars films (all 6) I have on my DVR (yes I have almost NO space left) from HBO are in no way upconverted 480 as some have said. They look AMAZING, but yes, not AS good as BR or HDDVD.

I'm with Comcast and LH this is a first but I have to slightly disagree with you. From the distance I sit from my TV I can't tell the difference between 300 cable(1080i) and 300 Blu ray(1080p). The same with CARS. IMO.
