HD DVD On Sale -- Cheap
It's the season for picking up movies on HD DVD at fire-sale prices. Circuit City has become the first major retailer to announce that it is closing out its stock of the now obsolete high-definition format by offering two free HD DVD titles for every three purchased at regular prices. The chain has also slashed prices of HD DVD players to just $129. The players also improve the quality of conventional DVD discs played on them. Speaking with Video Business magazine, Circuit City spokesman Jim Babb said, "We are in clearance mode, and we expect to go through the remaining inventory in the next few weeks." Meanwhile, Sony indicated that it intends to increase production and marketing of its Blu-ray players and software, taking advantage of retailers' plans to move Blu-ray product into the space it now devotes to the HD DVD.
By "regular" prices I hope they don't mean the MSRP cause that's still expensive.

My wife told me about this sale. I was in Best Buy Saturday, and they had plenty of HDDVDs (just as many as Blu rays) the problem was that they were all around $30-$35 bucks. When I went to see if they had any HDDVD players at a good price they were all sold out.

Thing is that the players have already been marked down for a while and the HD DVDs are 30 bucks each so buying 3 and getting 2 free is no big deal. Bring on the real clearance prices.

At $29.99 each for the first three, the five discs average around $18 a piece. Considering that Amazon has many titles at $15 or cheaper, this is not that great of a deal IMO.

also beware that not all CC's are honoring this deal in the same way. The CC near me offers ONLY the ones in the ad...not all of them

I bought the last 3 XB360 add ons last night from my local best buy for 39.99 each. No other store had any for sale of the other 3 in the area. I guess I just lucked out if ya call it that. I just ordered the following from Amzazon for $61 shipped:
Shipping estimate for these items: March 10, 2008
1 "Sleepy Hollow [HD DVD]"
Johnny Depp HD DVD $11.95
Sold by: Amazon.com
1 "The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) [HD DVD]"
Errol Flynn HD DVD $11.95
Sold by: Amazon.com
1 "Casablanca [HD DVD]"
Humphrey Bogart HD DVD $11.95

Although these prolly are not THE best prices around they are more than 50% less than BB had any of these for last night. Hopefully all these are good buys, as some of them are my faves.

I was at bestbuy last night they had all HD DVD's for 30% off. But you could tell they were not renewing stock. And they now had a large number of blurays.

I bought 5 from amazon the other day. 5 movies with shipping $83!!!
Best Buy sucks, that whole company is one giant rip off. They do not have the lowest advertized price. They don't have knowledgeable staff, and their whole jumping jacks mentality can suck eggs...
