It wasn't too long ago that all the CRT front projection guys were laughing at us. Well the ones with $50,000 9" guns are still laughing a bit, but we're catching up quickly! I enjoy seeing these new 3 chip DLP (DC4!) models coming out. A lot of people have no idea that this technology is moving up faster and prices moving lower than computers have been in the last few years. I can't wait until LED technology replaces our lamps too. I give it another 3 years at most before we start seeing them.

I think you'll see them surface sooner than that. Obviously the biggest detracting factor about LED's currently is that they're incapable of outputting high enough lumens to project a 90"-100" image, even in a totally light controlled environment. I think by early to mid 2009 you'll see some come to the market.

The CREE (I think it's called) LED lighting system has been used to successfully light projectors, so we may be seeing LEDs in commercial projectors very soon.
