http://www.hddvdplayerownersunite.com/ was recently launched as a response to Toshiba's decision to drop HD DVD. The goal of the site is to get Toshiba to reconsider thier decision and to get support for HD DVD format.

I don't see how it could make any sence to Toshiba to change thier mind. At this point Blu-ray has 100% of studio suport, although for some it will be a while before they make any movies on the format. But this would be worse than an uphill battle more like an up a vertical incline battle.

It bothers me that the majority of the Layout is in Blue.

As much as I feel HD DVD should have been the format, this is pointless. The damage is done. The media has spread the word to the public that HD DVD is dead. Any average consumer is now completely convinced Blu-ray is the next gen DVD. A simple Google search of "HD DVD" will turn off any new people looking for info.

Do you like tilting at windmills? Seriously, sit back, take advantage of the big 50 and 60-percent HD DVD sales and start saving up for a blu-ray player.

I hope the studios get screwed by Sony and they learn their lesson. It's been a mess thus far with players not playing correctly etc. The right choice would have been for the studios to back both formats and let us choose.

Why do people always think that this is just a SONY backed format. There are other CE companies involved with Blu ray just as much as SONY. SONY does not conrol Warner, Disney, Lion's Gate, Fox, New Line, or any other studio other than the few that are under the SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT umbrella, nor do they own Phillips, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sharp, Samsung, LG, Denon, Marantz or any other CE company that makes Blu ray players.
EDIT: What player from SONY has had troubles playing Blu ray disks?

I alos think this is pointless unless is about a health issue (and sometimes that doesn't matter either, look a tobacco companies, they are still going), companies don't really care what a minority thinks companies' main goal is to make money. Welcome to capitalism.
BTW, I tried to clink on the link and it gave me the thread again, so either you did the link wrong (which I doubt) or it got "magicaly" changed for you (if you know what I mean).
Also off topic, is it me or topics get erased from this forum? I was having a debate with another member in another thread and I checked it this morning and the thread is gone! It is not the first time I've seen thread magically dissappear. I think this is a violation of my constitutional rights! lol My first ammendment man! lol
But seriouly now, what's up with that???

is there a reason people on the internet constantly misspell the words "sense" and "loser"?

Maybe some people should look over the site before giving judgement. Take into consideration the point it is trying to advance. We have forums here if you would like to post a comment. As for the color, it very difficult to get something that looks halfway decent and not gross people out with horrible colors.

Just want to make sure I understand your plan.
Toshiba, a company that has taken a huge charge and shut down its lines, should reopen its lines and sell its hardware (at a profit I presume, so for several hundreds more than it last listed)? Who is going to release content on this format? Given that only two studios were producing content for it when it was trying to be a competitor, who will do so now?
Given that Wal*Mart, Best Buy, and Circuit City, will not sell it, what outlets will they use?

I commend the author for giving it the old college try, hell even I registered in the forums, however, may I make a few simple suggestions?
Change the color of the site to HD-DVD red
Spell Check - I found a lot of errors in spelling.
Contact the media, send them links to the site, explain what you are trying to do professionally and with enough excitement it makes them want to look into it.
The most successful things in the world are things marketed properly, conveying a clear message, and done in a professional manner.
I did so much Internet promotion for my first film Deadlands, that one the day of its release its IMDB rank went up 3000%. I was listed above films like The Breakfast Club, Back tot he future and more, just from internet hype alone.
If you do it right and keep it steady you can gain the momentum to properly bring the news to masses and maybe make a difference.

So let me get this right. The primary backers of HD DVD-Toshiba, Universal, Paramount/DreamWorks and Warner (through May)-have all said they will release in Blu Ray. Warner was chastised for going blu back in January after it said in 2007 they would only "look" into their support. So, when Warner announces BD backing, they're the anti-christ, but when you want Toshiba and their HD DVD partners to do the same, it's okay?
Oy vey.

Maybe if you could actually read anything on the site without going into epileptic seizures, some of us would have taken the time to read it.

Thanks JJ, it is very hard to read anything on there. All I was saying is that I did post the petition on time. And I do think it is way to late this thing has been over for weeks now.

IB, it's not about the $, it's about Sony's desparate attempt for vengeance for Betamax, UMD, etc. and the connection they have with Hollywood. Blue-ray is inferior, even if slight, and Sony loses money on each PS3 sold. So it's not about the money, it's about their arrogant ego as a company. In fact, Hollywood is pretty angry with Sony for being a Japanese company, trying to take over THEIR business, especially when they bought Columbia Tri Star. That is why Paramount, etc. jumped to HD-DVD.

And I would assume you have reputable, on the record sources to back up those claims?
One thing for sure doesn't wash: why would nationality have anything to do with which hi def format they picked? Universal used to be owned by the French (IIRC) Albert and Harry Warner were born Polish (a third brother was born Candian) Lionsgate is a Canadian company William fox was born in Hungary. So tell me exactly why Paramount and Universal jumped onto the Toshiba (aka HD DVD) bandwagon...which, oh YEAH...is a Japanese company?

Bottom line:
Quit your complaining, folks. It's O-V-E-R.
Pony up the dough and pay for a PS3. This thing is smokin' fast. Mine works great and it's virtually future-proof. I don't game on it at all...my 360 is for that. As a BD player it excels.

If you remember a movie called Star Wars: The Empire Strike Back. Recall the scene when Luke needs to get his X-wing fighter out of the swamp and Yoda tells him to use the force. Luke responds that it to big and that he can get it out. Yoda prods him on and talks about his size and that size matters not. Then Luke says he will try. Then Yoda says do or do not. Then Luke trys and fails because he he didn't believe that he could do it. Then Yoda uses the force to get the X-wing fighter out of the swamp and then Luke couldn't believe it. Seems that there are a lot of poster that are like Luke that can't believe that it can't be done at all. If it is done in the right way that it can be successful. Just a lot of naysayers.

You have systematically ignored each of my arguments. You disregard the fact hardware and software manufacturers have ABANDONED the format. You forget retailers are getting rid of their stock as fast as they can.
HD DVD as a viable hi def format is dead. There will be no releases after May, 2008. Universal has their last title coming out soon (Atonement). Paramount has canceled most of their releases. DreamWorks may or may not release Bee Movie. They have all pledged public support for Blu Ray. This isn't about an uphill battle. This is about knowing when your head has been cut off. The body is going to squirm just a bit until it grows cold.
Stop being the body.
