Wow that sucks, he's only 55. Jeez.

MSN refutes the five weeks claim.

You know, Swayze never reached being what's known as a 'superstar', but he is a quality actor, and you REMEMBER his personality/acting from the films he's been in. I can still vividly recall his limited role from Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders (the older protective brother and head of the household), as well as those other great roles (Ghost, Dirty Dancing) - and one of my favorite 'bad' movies, the rousing film ROADHOUSE.

Oh... I just remember this too.

The great blind guitarist who appeared in the Roadhouse film, JEFF HEALEY, himself recently passed away on March 2, 2008, from his long affliction of another cancer...

Healey lost his sight when he was one year old, due to retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eyes which he suffered from throughout his life and which ultimately killed him. His eyes had to be surgically removed, and he was given artificial replacements. He began playing guitar when he was three, developing his unique style of playing the instrument flat on his lap.

Swayze's Doctor Disputes Near-Death Reports
Patrick Swayze's doctor has confirmed the actor has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - but insists he's not as close to death as reports suggest. Tabloid and internet reports suggested the Ghost star was fighting for his life and had been given just five weeks to live, but his physician Dr. George Fisher suggests he's a lot more optimistic about the actor's recovery. In a statement issued to Wenn on Wednesday, Dr. Fisher says, "Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the time frame of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic." The Dirty Dancing hunk's publicist Annett Wolf adds, "Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

Whether he has only five weeks to live or not my prayers go out to him and to his family. Hopefully he'll turn it around and win the battle.

Swayze's Doctor Disputes Near-Death Reports

LH, the situation might not look good, but please don't designate yourself as the Angel of Death.

Unless you are a Doctor that is first party to the situation, please don't go declaring tabloid rumors and hearsay as a definite medical diagnosis.

VC, please read my FYI post again, with links to a news report. Nowhere in my post did I "designate myself as the Angel of Death", and/or "declare tabloid rumors and hearsay as a definite medical diagnosis." - LOL

I gave a LINK to a report
- criticize the report if you want, but drop your personal attacks against me. You will note that I didn't comment at all about the report and/or source, just brought it to the attention of the Msg Bd. Definitely I hope it's not as bad for him as the report alluded to, but I also remember 1991 when Michael Landon was diagnosed with a cancer condition that proved fatal a few months later...

"Landon's shows were all on NBC, but after ending Highway, he moved to CBS and in 1991 starred in a two hour pilot called Us. This was meant to be another series for Landon, but on April 5, he was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma, an inoperable pancreatic cancer that had spread to his liver and lymph nodes. On April 8, 1991, he appeared at a press conference to speak of his illness promising to do the best that he could to fight the cancer On May 9, 1991, he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson to speak of his illness and to publicly condemn the tabloid press for their sensational headlines and inaccurate stories, including the claim that he and his wife were trying to have another child. Less than 2 months later, on July 1, 1991, Landon died in Malibu, California, at the age of 54."

I always felt Swayze had the misfortune of being an actor during the wrong era. He is a professionally trained ballroom dancer (his mother is a dance instructor) and had he been and actor during the Fred Astaire/Gene Kelly era. He probably would have been a much bigger star.

Patrick Sayze is awesome! Sad to hear the news.

When can we expect to see "To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar" on Blu-ray? I love that film, and I think it would look great in high-def!

The only film of his that I wasn't so crazy about is the one that many loved him in: "Ghost" - I think that was when blockbosters tried to be blockbusters and it showed, and I just couldn't get into it. I enjoy it at times, but it is too..."blockbustery" for me.

From today's IMDB.com news reports...

Patrick Swayze and Wife Renew Wedding Vows - Cancer-stricken Ghost star Patrick Swayze and his wife Lisa Niemi have renewed their wedding vows, according to U.S. reports. The couple jetted off to their New Mexico ranch to exchange vows again, before a small group of close friends. The actor was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the beginning of 2008, and is fighting for his life, according to America's the Globe. Swayze and Niemi will celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary on 12 June and the actor is determined to live up to that date and beyond. An insider tells the publication, "He is refusing to give up, but right now he's living for today." The source insists the renewed wedding vows were very special for the couple: "It was very important to him (Swayze) to express his love and commitment to Lisa. They both mean the world to one another." The Globe recently revealed Swayze has drawn up his will to include plans for his own funeral, and he has settled all his affairs - just in case he suddenly loses his cancer battle. The Dirty Dancing star continues to undergo treatment in Stanford, California, but close friends insist the future doesn't look too bright for the movie star. One pal tells the Globe, "It's deadly serious. Doctors have told him that if or when the cancer spreads to his brain he has two weeks to live."
