It hasn't been officially confirmed by Circuit City, but reports are coming in that they are extending their return policy for HD DVD players.
For those who purchased an HD DVD player in the past three months from Circuit City, the electronics chain will accept returns and put the refund towards a Blu-ray player.
Returns must include all parts and accessories that originally came with the purchase, and does not include HD DVD movies.
Ok, that's dumb as hell. Then what would I do with the 25+ HD DVD movies I own? I could just stare at the covers and rmember the movie I guess...

It's possible that many new HD-DVD owners have primarily been renters of HD-DVD discs, and bought the player for their lower price and quality upconversion of standard DVD. So that's who this CC return-offer is probably intended for, and not those who may have purchased many HD-DVD discs over the last few months (might as well keep the player and enjoy the HD-DVD content).

The same thing most 8-track and LP owners did. Get the ones you really like on the prevailing format.
And in case you need reminding... NO ONE is forcing you to take their offer.
My god, you guys (not just you) need to stop living in denial. HD-DVD is dead. It is just a movie format for your home. You hang on to it like it was a LIVING family member.

HDVD.com has the information on this swap with CC. CC will recognize any HD DVD player only purchased in the past 90 days. There will be a restocking fee, and you will be given an in store credit. But you can read it yourself at the site.

trade in allowance? is that English?
It should read "offers trade in, HDDVD players for Blu Ray." Simpler is usually better.
