If I leave a DVD in the region free Toshiba and turn the machine off, it loses its place and I have to go through the menu to get back to where I was. I've never had that problem before. And I can't leave it on because it shuts itself off after a time.
Has anyone ever had a problem like that?

If this is an HD-DVD player, Toshiba doesn't have last point memory built into the players.

DjfunkmasterG,
Actually, Toshiba told me some time ago that the issue is not with the technology but with the studios never implementing the return-point feature in their discs. I have Toshiba's own, original, HD DVD demo disc, and, sure enough, if you stop the disc anywhere, you can return to the same spot when you resume play. But I've never been able to do that with any HD DVD movie from any studio.

It's a regular DVD player. I will not buy an HD-DVD player since that is now a defunct format. The problem has happened on every DVD I've put into the machine.
