I too was thinking of getting a dual player (a dual player would simply just fit my needs in a current room). Does anybody have any info on this machine? What's all this 2.0 stuff? My PS3 has 2.0? What does it do for me?

BTW, my PS3 is in a different area of my house, so it can't help the other room.

Mainly, Blu-ray's Profile 2.0 adds an Ethernet port to the back of the player for Internet interconnectivity. That way, you can download firmware upgrades directly to the player without having to get them via your computer and burn them to a disc first. Plus, on future selected BD discs you will be able to download extra materials from a studio's Web site.

Profile 1.1, by the way, adds the ability to access Picture-in-Picture and other such disc interactivity, which is probably a must for future selected BD discs that include such features. Personally, I've owned two HD DVD players with Ethernet ports and never used them. But it's nice to have the PiP interactivity functions on my HD DVD and Blu-ray players.

Thanks (about the 2.0), yeah I haven't connected my 2 HD DVD player to the internet either, but my PS3 does updates all the time.

Anyways,

Does this Samsung BD UP5000 have 2.0? Does anybody have this player? Is it worth the price?

I personally wouldn't waste my money on one of them because they're full of problems. I work at a BBY service center and last Wednesday through Friday we must have received about 2 pallets of both this player and the LG BH200 which were all truly defective. If it was well designed then it would be a good choice for those who need a dual format player but in its current form I can't recommend it.

Randy,

Here's a link to a chart of the currently available Blu-ray players (including combo players) and what they're capable of doing:
