Future Shop Canada Trade-in program

Future Shop (a Canadian electronics chain, owned by Best Buy) introduced an HD DVD trade-in program for a limited time. Any model HD DVD player qualifies for a $100 credit towards the purchase of an HD DVD/Blu-ray combo player (LG BH200 or Samsung 5000). With the current special price of LG BH200 of $499, it means a somewhat future-proof, 1080p combo player for only $399.
The added incentive is the fact that all HD DVD players turned in through this exchange will be donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs as super-DVD players.

Am afraid that these days, America needs much more than just a hat to be a country it once was....

I wouldn't do the trade in unless you own an A3 that you paid little for and got the free movies. Trade in any other model HD player and you're getting burned on that trade. Also, both the LG and the Samsung combo players have some pretty serious issues with them right now that may or may not be fixed with future FW upgrades.

You are correct, by trading HD-A3, I have effectively "lost" only $49.99, offset by the 5 free movies + 2 that were in the box. As for serious issues with LG BH200, I put it through its paces and could not spot any (manufacturing date January 2008) with a FW upgrade and only minor moire before the FW upgrade. It looks as though LG has taken all the criticism seriously. BTW, I did like the Toshiba HD DVD very much - it is a great machine, but LG actually lets you load the disc faster!
