I finally got my copy of Ratatouille from Amazon today. Eager to see the PQ and SQ, by the way the 24bit 6.9 Mbps LPCM track is amazing, but this is the first Blu ray that took 30 seconds longer than it normally takes to load a blu ray disk. Second, some of the bonus features seem to freeze my PS3. I was shocked, I have never experienced a frozen Blu ray movie on my PS3. Then it dawned on me that I did read here that some people have had problems with this movie. I was going to get Pirates 3 but I remember reading some issues with that as well. I think for now on I'll rent Disney releases before I buy them.

Ratatouille, is from all accounts a problem disc. It's one of our demo discs at work and I've yet to find a standalone player they plays it reliably. There's nothing like trying to demonstrate Blu-Ray to people only to have it freeze up on the Dancing Rat Icon. I had heard it was much better on PS3 though.

I have never had a problem playing it and/or the game and features in my PS3, just lucky I guess. Also, never had a problem with the CARS BR disc, and it looks like the same type of format.

Tony, you are correct man, the soundtrack sounds amazing on my ONKYO TX-SR705, and IIRC, you have that same receiver?

Once you get the movie started it plays great, the funny thing is that Disney tries to warn you about load times when you pop in the disk. The rat icon appears when entering a bonus feature and then freezes sometimes and at other times disappears never to be seen again freezing the PS3 until you restart the movie. Oh well I guess I'll have to be happy with just playing the movie.

Blu I have the 705. Tony has the 605. I second that fact. sounds amazing.

Hey Tony. Rat bludisc plays fine on my ps3 special features and everything. i use it as a demo disc... in some parts.

But what i can tell you is this, i dont use my ps3 for anything but bluray, and for a period of a week and a half I did. to try and compare the upscaling and how good it would read burned discs, and also rented some ps3 games during that week just to try. After using my ps3 for different things for about 1.5 to 2 weeks... I loaded the rat flick one weekend again to some it off, and it took longer to read. (thats the fist time i saw the dancing rat) it also did it with another movie, maybe WAR or something else I rented. thats what i've noticed. maybe it was on too long reading things...i stopped usign it for all purposes again, and blue playback load times went back to normal??? weird. just my 2 cents

Yeah I should probably add, that our standalone players are constantly running all day. However the problem you mentioned Tony appears to be a common complaint over at AVS in regards to this disc. Maybe there was a bad batch.

I also have Chicken Little from Disney on Blu ray and the bonus features play just fine. Like I said as long as my 7 year old can enjoy flawless playback I'm cool. Blu Bawla I have Cars on SDVD and the upconversion looks great with the PS3 so I don't think I'll be getting this one on Blu ray. Kuco, thanks for the heads up on the playback of other disks after watching Ratatouille. Movielover, you maybe right maybe I did get a bad one from AMAZON, but it plays, just not the bonus material, oh well win some lose some.

The SD DVD plays wonderfully in my Xbox 360 DVD Upscaler drive (That, as an added bonus, plays HD DVD's as well!).

I'm not trying to start anything but every time I hear about a great movie like ID4, or I Robot, or The Longest Day coming out on Blu I say to myself: "man, I don't know if I can wait for Profile 2 players to come out and go down to $150-$200 to buy one". But then when I start hearing/reading all these problems not only with Blu plyaers but the movies too, reminds me of why I'm still buying HD-DVD's and why I might only buy a BD player if the format becomes fully main-streamed.

This "format war" really sucked, on the one hand we had an almost perfect format but with little money to buy support, and on the other we have a flawed-"incomplete" format with tons of money to buy the needed support.

Anyway, like some of you just said Ratatouille is the look and sound of perfect on SD-DVD.

lol. Yeah but I bet it looks amazing in hidef. I purchased a couple of used DVD's (Bridge to Tirabithia and Night at the Museum) and they look really, really good upscaled. Disney is really putting out some nice DVD transfers right now.

I watched my Blu-ray of RATATOUILLE again recently, loads just as fast as always, plays perfectly, and again reminded me that it should have been nominated for the Best Picture Oscar - just a wonderful film, and quite funny! And I loved the jazzy musical score.

Sorry, I haven't tried playing the including game on the disc yet, so can't comment on any playback problems (alluded to on the previous page from another post).

I've only had one problem when i try to access the specail features where it lists to tune in your picture and audio in the disk of Ratatouille on my ps3. I was just wondering if i'm the only one or if someone else might experience this problem. The screen goes dark and not even the mouse appears....so i have to reset the system....

I rented the BR version last night, and it worked flawlessly on my PC. But then again you probably need a 2.8 Ghz Quad core processor and 2 Gigs of Ram to make any profile 2.0 disk to work properly right now. LOL

By the way, did I mention that the SD DVD version works without flaws?

Well Tony, I wonder if EVERY ps3 is unable to access this feature?...Does anyone else have trouble trying to tune the video/audio on the disk of Ratatouille on the special features?

I have the movie, but only played the movie in my PS3 (which worked without a hitch). I'll try the special feature tuning thingy later tonight and let you know how it goes.

Thomas... I experienced the same 'problem' you indicated on when choosing to calibrate your A/V TV settings using the disc's bonus option - the SCREEN GOES BLANK. So after waiting 20-25 seconds, I pressed a few buttons on my controller and the A/V test settings then popped up and then I had no problems going thru the testing menus (to fine-tune my Pioneer KURO plasma just little better than I already had it). After the final test, the original Ratatouille main menu easily came back on.

Don't know what caused this hang-up/delay when accessing the A/V test settings. For the record, my PS3 is the original 60GB model (w/2.18 firmware from late Dec.)

Tony, you are probably right, it was the 2.10 firmware update (I was going on my memory) - the one from late December.

But... in checking the Playstation 3 Website, Sony has just released a 2.17 firmware update (3/13). So here's another one, although a minor update.

Details...

- New for 2.17 -

*System stability during use of some PLAYSTATION®3 format software has been improved

*Strengthened the safety of security related to the Internet browser

LH, after reading your post I turned the PS3 on and it told me in the media box that the 2.17 update was ready to be downloaded. I wish it had the dts update as well.

OK fellas, I just read that when you access the A/V settings on the disk you have to press the #1 button on your remote.
