And you get a $7.50 ticket to see the new Dark Knight film when you buy it on Blu ray. The sad thing is that I was'nt a huge Batman Begins fan, the movie was ok but it's not a must have too me.

kucoloco... the news link seems to indicate that the movie ticket to the Dark Knight is included in the regular Blu-ray edition too, not just the $49.95 gift set. [hope so anyway for those interested - I own the HD-DVD edition]

Hmmm...I love how no one screams about consumers choice in this regard, yet it's the first card brought out when referencing HD DVD pulling out. Amazing.

I'm there for the gift set. I'm a shameless superhero whore. I know.

Glad I bought the HD-DVD version. Paid a whopping $14.30 for it with tax. I could care less about all of the other junk that they are stuffing into the Blu-Ray special release.

The same Special Feature on the HD DVD disk, but with the Blu-Ray one you won't be able to access them. Or some of them might not work at all! Aren't you guys glad the inferior format won!

Well your president Bush might also invade Canada tomorrow for its oil. But I wouldn't say it as fact, only as a distinct possibility at this point. Meanwhile, I have to admit I do stockpile ammo in case I have to become a Canadian insurgent. I enjoy the resorts in Cuba, but no way are your "brave soldiers" taking me alive to rot in Gitmo forever!

I am not double dipping for this, especially at $50.00

My $15.00 HD-DVD is suffice, but I will rent it to see if the Transfer is any better.

Skyhawk,
Take it easy on the president bashing. You are lucky we haven't sold Canada to the Saudi's.

richiro33, I am not bushing Bash! Err... I mean bashing Bush. He's a great president, and will no doubt go down in history as one of the greats. His administration just has a knack of scaring the rest of the world is all, and making their populations build up their supply of canned spam and ammunition just in case!

DjfunkmasterG, I suspect it's the same encode and transfer I bet. I wont be double-dipping either, unless my HD DVD player dies and/or my present HD DVD version implodes!

The HD DVD transfer is astonishing and will not be beat by Blu-ray - you should be happy if it equals the HD DVD release. It's one of my favorite HD DVDs!

$50? They can kiss my hind end! I got my free Blu-rays in the mail yesterday. I still have yet to buy but two BRDs on sale. One day these Blu-ray discs may be worth their price...the day they start costing $20 instead of $30!

Yes, the HD DVD transfer is excellent, among the best available in either format. However, Warner Bros. use the same video encodes for both their HD DVD and Blu-ray releases, so the picture quality on the Blu-ray disc should be identical to the HD DVD. That's assuming they continue their practice of using the same bit rates in transferring both encodes to disc. With BD, they have more capacity, and they could, theoretically, use a higher bit rate. But the odds are against it.

I disagree.
While Batman Begins was an excellent transfer at the time of its release - these days, it's looking pretty damn soft up against more recent transfers from other studios. Compare it to, say, Black Snake Moan (Paramount), Spiderman 3 and Black Book (Sony), Pirates of the Carribean and Bridge to Terribithia (Disney), or King Kong and Hot Fuzz (Universal) and tell me you disagree.

On a 100 inch projection screen - even at 720p - the softness of the transfer is even more obvious.

Warner Bros... are you listening? Your transfers are good - but they're a definite step below what the other studios are putting out these days. Please re-transfer and re-encode this film!!!
