So fellow Canadians, there will be a fire sale soon. The guy told me they'd be pricing them $9.99 (same as their older used standard DVDs). They were just pulled off the shelves today, so they have them waiting in a box for pricing, and for the ones that are rented out yesterday to come back.

It's kinda sad in a way, since it was at least a rental option that existed until today even though HD DVD lost the war. The guy there said he found it funny, cause they were still being rented. But they have to follow directions from head office. At least zip.ca still has about 350 titles or so available for rent.

Whatever, I think that some people just can't handle the fact that soon there will be a day when the only place you can find HD-DVD stuff is on eBay or the flea market. Right next to the old lady doilies and 8-track tapes.

Seriously, Jono! Why the hell are you here? You just troll through message threads so that you can bring your holier-than-thou attitude to anyone who even mentions HD DVD. Did anyone say HD wasn't dead? Has anyone claimed that Blu lost? Grow up. The thread was started so that those who are interested in picking up a few titles before they go away can do so. How does that impact you? I have yet to see one post from you that said anything interesting, relevant, or discussion-worthy.

Anyway, thanks for the tip, Sky. Did they give you any indication as to when they might be putting them out? Tuesday, perhaps.

Odd... how Tim Raynor can say basically the same thing. "boo-hoo" picture above and no one says a word.

O well. I guess I will troll on!

Tim has established himself as a loveable jerk, who sometimes just trolls for places to post funny pictures, but who also sometimes posts insightful and relevant information. You have yet to do that. Ever. And, though you might have missed it, Sky refered to being "sad", therefore the pic was a funny addition to his post.

Went to 3 Rogers locations today. Two had no idea what was going on with their HD DVDs. The other had a bin out that had HD DVDs marked at 16.99 and 19.99. So, that doesn't seem that great, BUT, Rogers has a 2 for $20 sale on right now on all previously viewed movies, so I got The Kingdom, Knocked Up, HP and the Order of the Phoenix and Ocean's 13 for $40. PLUS, if you have a reward card, you also get 2 point for every PV you buy, so these 4 got me to 20 points, which I redeemed for another PV of my choice - Eastern Promises HD. 5 for $40. Not bad. I'll keep checking the other stores.

I also went into a Blockbuster, and the woman at the counter said they would be pulling all of their HD DVDs this week, and they should be marked down to sell PV by the end of the week. They have a buy 2, get 1 free sale on right now. Finally some good news for Canadian HD DVD owners.

Went to Blockbuster today and spoke to the manager. ALL HD DVD rentals are being pulled and put out for sale tomorrow (Monday) previously viewed! He showed me the PV bar codes that will be going on them, so it's a done deal, but the prices won't be in the system until tomorrow, so he couldn't sell any yet. He expected they'd be about 16.99, and they have a Buy 2 get 1 Free deal going on still. He figures they'll be all out for sale by late afternoon. (This is Blockbuster Canada - don't know about U.S.).

interplanataryspy, you are correct...

I stopped by my local BB at lunchtime to see what was happening...they have cleared the shelves of all HD DVD product and will have it priced to clear after 5:00pm today.

As for my local Rogers, they still have their NEW product for sale on the product risers but all the previously viewed rental product was shipped late last week to another store...either for consolidating HD DVD rentals into select locations where the metrix warrant carrying HD DVD or they are being pooled by Zip.ca for their rental business.

What I want is to get to the zip.ca, end of HD DVD clearance sale

I might actually find the Jack Ryan I have been gypped out of on a couple of occasions from Paramount

Hope they guarentee them if that happens. I haven't had good rental luck with HD DVDs lately because of scratches, cracks, etc. Within the last 3 months or so, it seems I'm allowed 4 to 5 disks out at a time more often than not because I report so many defective ones (I have the 3 movie option). A couple weeks ago I even had to take apart my HD DVD player to remove a disk from the drive.

So, Blockbuster pulled all their HD DVDs alright, but the prices start at $19.99, and they aren't eligible for the Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale. Why? Because it applies to all previously viewed DVDs, and "HD DVDs aren't DVDs". That's the same lame excuse I got at 3 locations. Obviously, I didn't buy any. I can get them cheaper new at Deep Discount or Amazon.

I had the same experience at my local BB interplanataryspy...

Even if there had been a deal...there really wasn't much of a selection

But the manager did advise he did call head office and tell them they are nutz if they think they are going to get $24.99 for a previously enjoyed copy of 300

Hopefully that will have some effect, but I doubt it. I would have been quite happy, even with the high prices, if HD DVDs were DVDs, and I could have used the sale to balance out the prices.
