Han Solo has 79% of the votes! :p

I have to admit Han is my fav space cowboy ever BUT Kirk was pretty freakin genius himself.

Quote:
March 12, 2008 - Actor Chris Pine, the newest Captain Kirk, recently revealed in an interview that his portrayal of the Enterprise captain was inspired by the captain of the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo. Naturally, Stars saw that and knows "fightin' words" when we see them. So now this is happening: Hero Showdown, Captain James Tiberius Kirk locks phasers on that Greedo-killing, Rebel-smuggling Han Solo.

It's the future Denny Crane vs. the future Dr. Richard Kimble, with a Spock vs. Chewie undercard for your clicking pleasure.

James Tiberius Kirk

The Original Series Kirk made "shoot first, ask questions never" Starfleet policy when it came to his and the Enterprise's five-year mission. While Solo was slicing into the seemingly inflated-condom-lined stomach of a Tan-Tan to keep a farmboy warm, Kirk was killing Klingons with a phaser in one hand and a bottle of Saurian Brandy in the other.

Kirk also proved to be a formidable fighter. Gorns everywhere feared bumping into Kirk in some dark alley, not when he's packing the following moves:
1. Karate chop to the neck, sometimes two in immediate succession
2. Full body, double-booted flying kick
3. Both fists cupped in a move affectionately called the Rigel Death Rattle.

Solo's trip to Cloud City proved that he can't smell a trap, a trap Kirk would have seen (via Spock's scanners) several light-years away. Solo may shoot first, but Kirk shoots just about anything that beeps or moves to save his ship. Hell, he'll even travel back in time on your ass just to kick it again. And if Spock's at risk? Shiii@#, son, you best pack a lunch, this battle's gonna be awhile.

Han Solo

Smuggler. Scoundrel. Nerf herder. Solo's unique brand of heroics leads him to be classified as a "dirty fighter". He not only shot Greedo first, but also had the record changed some 20 years later to cover up any trace of the crime. And while Solo has only him, a Wookiee and his cargo to worry about when behind the controls of his ship, Kirk has an entire crew of spandex-sporting officers to think of. In fact, Kirk blew up his ship to save the day, something Solo probably wouldn't do, given his strong reaction to Chewie's incorrect repairs: "No, this one goes there, that one goes there!" He can't stand the idea of a scratch on his ship, so don't expect the self-destruct order to be given anytime soon.

But Solo has Chewie in his corner, who could rip Kirk's arms out of his sockets with one nod from Han. If the thigh-holstered blaster fails Solo, the Wookiee makes for a good back-up.

In the spirit of Star Wars, ummmm remember the Death Star? Well it may not be so much fantasy anymore.

"If you could hold a giant magnifying glass in space and focus all the sunlight shining toward Earth onto one grain of sand, that concentrated ray would approach the intensity of a new laser beam made in a University of Michigan laboratory." - Physorg

If that doesn't amaze you, you need a slap. The HERCULES laser can produce that intensity instantaneously, and it is said to be the most intense known light in the universe.

The beam is sustained for 30 femtoseconds, with one femtosecond being equivalent to a million billionth of a second. So, it lasts longer than you do in bed, and it also performs a little better, too. However, this isn't Dr Robotnik having a wacky time for no use, it is hoped that the research will give rise to powerful cancer treatments, and when we say powerful, we do mean 300 terawatts of power, with an inconceivable, 20 billion trillion watts per square centimeter. What is that equivalent to? An astonishing, 300 times the capacity of the U.S. electricity grid. All of that energy is concentrated into a 1.3-micron point, which is roughly 100th the diameter of a human hair.

Victor Yanovsky, who spearheaded the laser's development, says the HERCULES is around two orders more powerful than its nearest competing laser. A beam can be generated once every 10 seconds, and the entire contraption accommodates several rooms, is constructed from titanium-sapphire and the light that enters at one end is processed by mirrors and other optical elements. This results in an increase in the energized quality of focused light.

It scares the crap out of me that this thing even exists.

You can't really compare them both for both had completely different level of importance in their roles. Kirk was THE leader of Star Trek. In the original Star Wars Trilogy, Luke was the central character (although if you put the Saga together then Anakin/Vader could be the main guy). IMO, based on the level of importance, Solo can be compared to either Spoke or Bones (McCoy).

However, for the sake of this thread, I'll say:

The many faces of Solo:

I think the bigger question is Wookie's versus Tribbles.
