How many times does it take to kiss a format's a$$?

I got in touch with the person in charge of distributing Apple TV appliance review samples. After a delay that might have been related to researching my writings and this site, I was told that my request could not be fulfilled at this time, but that I should call back in a month or so. I can’t help wonder if Apple is concerned about an unbiased but potentially critical review.

I almost choke...

That was interesting. I like the title even: "The hype of gloom and doom". Even though HD DVD lost, the FUD cannot stop - at least for now.

All this speculation about downloads is ridiculous. I don't care what Apple or Toshiba says about downloads vs hard copies - they just don't know.

As for the author of the piece, did he expect Toshiba to just give in to Blu's victory? C'mon, this is like a political race and these people aren't ashamed to trash talk their competitors. I would personally take Blu-ray any day over hyper mega upscaling of DVDs, but there are issues at hand that need to be addressed, such as pricing and features. When blu-ray players hit the magic number, and if there are no serious compatibility issues, then the format will flourish.

HD-DVD received a lot of negative coverage that it didn't deserve, but this new 'battle' is nothing like the old. This is no longer apples to apples, and this propaganda will not affect blu-ray simply because the argument doesn't hold any water. It sure sounds convenient to have several movies stored on a device for quick playback, but I prefer a device that is just a means to an end. I'd rather have my movies stand on their own, so that I may play them on another device, or if my device breaks down, I know that it will not affect my movie collection.

i rather go Blu before a $150 Profile 2 player is out than doing movie downloads. Just the thought of my PC crashing for whatever reason and loosing all my movies in the blink of an eye is just too scary (and real) for me to even consider DL movies.

Long live physical media!!!!

Wow, for once we're in an agreement. I never thought I'd see the day.

I'd go for streaming movies or downloads. So I guess I disagree!

If they offer me the quality and features of good high definition, it would certainly take a bite out of my bricks&mortar rental habits. Why drive to my local Rogers or BB video store in a snow storm if I could rent the equivalent movie instantly without leaving my couch? As long as the price is equivalent, I would definitely go for it. No brainer!

But of course, this has nothing to do with my actual purchase habits, and everything to do with where/how I rent stuff only.

I'm personally down for streaming HD media. The idea that you would download and store on a hard drive is silly. Simply put a check mark next to the movies you'd like to own and there ya go. Instant HD streaming. Anyone with a 3Mb/sec connection can stream HD media with 5.1 surround sound instantly. That's MOST people (or at least a large amount) with internet access I would guess. At least as many people as know what the deal with streaming/downloading vs physical media is right now. And those are the people who would be adopters of such a service and then it would just expand from there I would guess.
