After getting Dragged to Hell, Sam Raimi plans to develop and direct a series of films based on the popular Tom Clancy-created Jack Ryan book series. Paramount is hoping to release the first film in Summer 2010.

Alec Baldwin first took the character to the big screen in John McTiernan’s 1990 The Hunt for Red October. Harrison Ford took over the character for Phillip Noyce’s 1992 film Patriot Games and 1994 film Clear and Present Danger. Ben Affleck played a younger Jack Ryan in Phil Alden Robinson’s 2002 film The Sum of All Fears, which was heavily criticized for deviating from the novel and cannon of the Ryan story in order to insert more action into the plot. From what I understand, the Jack Ryan character in the books is a lot less action orientated, which is somewhat played off due to his age.

Raimi plans to develop a series of new films featuring a younger Ryan at a “more formative point in his career than previously depicted.” I’m sure this new direction will further anger fans of the series. Variety says: “One invention the studio is considering is to set the film in the present, with the action triggered by a global threat.”

Speaking of True Lies. That movie rocked. Why oh why did arny get into politics. Grrr. He could have made many more cool movies. Look at Sean connery. He made em for a very long time (stunt men help, lol).

As a Californian, that's what I keep asking.

Anyway, of more important concern is why, oh why, 20th Century Fox haven't given us a decent anamorphic transfer of "True Lies." The non-anamorphic widescreen they've been producing all these years on DVD is barely adequate at best. Maybe they'll eventually put the movie out on Blu-ray, and it will finally look as good as it should.

As an education employee who is at the verge of loosing his job due to Arny's impending $4 Billion cut on education, I ask myself the same question.

Agreed John about TRUE LIES - it's the same decent 'letterboxed' transfer (non-anamorphic, so no 16x9) as seen on the earlier LaserDisc releases, and unfortunately also lacks the great DTS track found on the full bit-rate DTS LD edition.

For the record, I've never heard any DTS DVD track that sounds superior to the full bit-rate LD equivalent. The DVDs have too low compressed bit rates, which affects the quality.

Hey Tony... and yet Universal failed to release HD-DVDs of some of their Arnold films - Conan The Barbarian/Destroyer, Twins (love this!), Kindergarten Cop, Junior... well, at least they put End of Days on HD-DVD.

Warner needs to release Arnold's Eraser on Blu-ray, and Sony should put out The Last Action Hero too - I liked both of these. The 6th Day is coming soon to Blu-ray, and I believe Warner will release the earlier Batman series too (Arnold in the 4th film) later this year(?).
