But I still don't want a PS3 (video game system) to be my Blu-ray player.

Agreed! We need new visualizations to drop LSD to!

There are games available for the PS3?? :p

Seriously though, if the PS3 can do all these things I feel bad for Pioneer, Sharp, Samsung, etc trying to sell standalones for the same price. Most of their machines are not upgradeable to profile 2.0 never mind all the other features available on the PS3.

You mean to tell me you guys don't like the Planet Earth visualization?

Now THIS IS A HEADLINE...unlike some FANBOY BASHING by a certain member, of the same topic! Thanks tek. Thanks Henning!

The BEST FEATURE that I'm looking forward on this patch: Playback CAPABILITY of Divx & WMV formats, over 2gb in filesize! Too bad that avchd/mp4 filesize is still constraint to 4gb... or is there an 'upgrade' news about that one too...

Tony, the Earth visualization was s great when I first see it I guess... but how can I put it? BORING now!

In all seriousness, there are a number of things that bug me about my PS3 that I wish Sony had given greater priority to (I really don't care to download movie related ring tones for my cell phone - and if I ever do please shoot me). Here is my wish list in terms of priority:

1. DTS HD Master Audio decoding.
2. Cough up those license fees Sony and please incorporate plugins in your browser that allow for the most popular types of streaming internet video and audio! grrrr....
3. Clean up those darn media server menus. Why should I be able to select "Audio" under the "Video" server just to have the player tell me it can't play it there? DOH!
4. Give us more downloadable free content at the Sony store thingy - some stupid free arcade games that are freely available everywhere else is something the wife would enjoy anyway.
5. And yes, visualizations... with the power of the PS3, it should be no problem to beat even that of the default one that Winamp has.
6. BD-Live (Profile 2.0)

xplaytendo, than you should just buy the Blu-ray, but I do agree with you. I would love to record a HD cable movie on my PC and stream it to my PS3.

Bingo, Falc. Sony's partners are getting screwed on keeping the retail price MUCH MUCH HIGHER than the 40gb PS3... with VERY LIMITED FEATURES, weak processor, & ZERO STORAGE DRIVE. Not to mention FASTER FIRMWARE UPDATES...

I'm sorry Skyhawk but.. Number 4? Christ... First you guys get free online gaming... now you expect free games too?! Crazy canuck.

Even us Xbox Live Gold Members RARELY get a free game thrown at us... only if the Servers are down for a substantial amount of time... or if there's some crazy special event going on. And don't even MENTION free map packs! The Dev's keep nodding their heads yes to it... but Microsoft keeps saying no. I mean... Seriously... the 800/400 points is supposed to be for bandwidth and such right? Well... Why can't that come out of my Fifty bucks a year? Or 20 bucks every 3 months? (I hate not having 50 bucks.)

I already have a blu-ray. I've had my PS3 since Thanksgiving! Sonystyle.com offered a $100 credit to any new credit card members, with a purchase of $299 & up. I bought the 80gb Motorstorm bundle. No other blu-ray player can match the PS3, based on price/features.

Sad to say, I sold Motorstorm. I don't play console games.

As for that offer, I believe it's still ACTIVE at sonystyle.com.

Hey Skyhawk, I agree with #1, certainly #2, I can live with #3, I have a MAME emulator for #4, I also agree with #5, and #6 will be here before you know it.

But don't you have to turn your PS3 into a Linux box for that to work? Or do they have MAME that's compatible with the PS3's native OS?

BTW, getting #2 (that includes a fully operational Flash plugin) would probably satisfy my wife's cravings for #4.

Yes you do, but I have an ATI All In Wonder card and it's connected to my HDTV so one click on the Onkyo remote and my computer is displayed so adding Linux to my PS3 is not neccessary.

I believe Yellow Dog Linux is applicable to the PS3...

Another 'feature' I wish they would finally release: HOME

So let me get this straight his name is xplaytendo and he DOESN'T play console games??

And who the heck is using the PS3 for music visualizations? That's like using a blender as a lava lamp )

This isn't what a blender is for?

My wife keeps on telling me this also... Hmm... perhaps there is truth in this after all?

Edit: To be serious again, I do think that providing visualizations is better than a blank screen when streaming audio content through the PS3.

But I still don't want a PS3 (video game system) to be my Blu-ray player.

Could someone on here PLEASE explain to me why so many people are hung up on this point? Does it make the PS3 any less of a Blu-ray player that it also happens to play video games? I just don't understand. The PS3 is by FAR the best value of any Blu-ray player on the market and it's one of the most future-proof as well. Insisting on buying a standalone simply because it's a standalone that doesn't do any of the other things that the PS3 does do is just...how do I put this delicately...um...narrow-minded? By the way, the PS3 is one of the best Blu-ray players out there on top of all of that, forgetting about the additional functionality altogether. I just don't get hating the idea of a machine doing more than one function. As long as it is a good player (which it is), why NOT buy it and be able to play PS2, PS3, DIVX, H264, WMV, MP4, CD, SACD, MP3 as WELL as Blu-ray? Just doesn't make sense...

CroweDawg1121, I was being sarcastic. I was teasing others whom have said that. As a PS3 owner myself I find that the machine is actually the best piece of electronic eqiupment that I've ever owned.

I agree man, this is the best piece of electronic equipment i have ever owned! Partner it with the Onkyo TX_SR705 and some killer speakers, 7.1 of course, and you have a dream system!

Sony has really hit a home run this time. I am still getting great deals on HDDVD's though so i now have more HD than BR, but when hat is done, it will be all BR.

I also do not even own 1 game for PS3, but have around 30 titles for my 360, which is a far superior machine (for gaming) at THIS time. With GTA4 coming out in April i will be devoting a LOT of my free time to 360!
