Doesn't Nintendo charge a fee for their Wii gaming service?
They don't have a service per say. Well, not in the sense of Live or Home. But the charge is having to put up with their silly friend codes. I own a Wii and am pretty happy with it over all. But man, I am certain that to really break into the online gaming they need to do away with the friend code deal.

So the guys who bash media downloads,
love their blu-ray actually having 'exclusive downloads' or whatever the internet interactivity means...
Hypocrites!

it doesn't matter if niether of them have anything in common with each other.
With Sony calling most of the shots in BR i just thought it was interesting to see that the word Live was used. Sony is hurting in really only one department right now..... the gaming dept. Now, MS did a lot to make Sony look bad. Not purposely, but just from being a good console in itself with an amazing online play.
It makes me wonder why Sony chose to use the name Live, which is "almost" something of a brand name in itself due to the extreme popularity of the service.
Why does everyone have to get so defensive.
all I saud was that Sony has been doing well and MS is not happy about it. And that this announcement is kind of a slap in the face. Does nobody see that? Maybe I'm crazy, but if i had a special multimillion dollar cashcow called ghost, and then a hardcore direct rival started taking money out of my pocket and released somekind of service called specter or phantom or even ghost, i would be a little ticked off.
As far as having nothing in common though, xbox live offers interactive content for games on the xbox360. BD Live offers interactive content for HD movies on the PS3... that's not a HUGE difference, but i would have to say it's more than "nothing in common at all".

Which guys are these? Perhaps there are some somewhere, but I doubt all "guys who bash media downloads" love their Blu-ray now for having "exclusive downloads" (even though both aren't the same).
If anything, this should make more HD DVD exclusive guys get onto the Blu-ray bandwagon, since Internet interactivity ("exclusive downloads") were so important to them.

Again mvckalel, which Blu-ray owners are boasting about these new features? Seriously.
And you don't care about Interactive web features even though you're the loudest complainer about Blu-ray haven't not had them compared to HD DVD on this site? And who are you calling hypocrite again?
Also, has the world just turned upside-down and inside-out?

In addition to what Skyhawk stated, for the record... I, like editor John Puccio and others, just DON'T CARE about 2.0 interactive features. None of my HD-DVD players or my 60GB PS3 is connected to the internet. Whenever I want to update my PS3, I connect a USB flash drive to my computer, download, then update the drive into the PS3. Maybe one day I'll experiment with 2.0 features. Looks like Skyhawk, Tony1569, ReaggieP and others are the experts here with experience in using interactive features.

I know what you mean about not caring about the interactive features, supplementals, extra, etc... and many times, the "fluff" is just that!
However... some of these movies have some very interesting and articulate add-ons that are worth taking a look at! Transformers on HD DVD has one of the coolest features I've seen, as far as one of these "Internet-enabled features." There's an optional viewing mode for the movie, that puts a frame on the bottom and left side of the screen (it reduces the viewing image by 10 or 15 percent) and it had details (on a panel that slides out) on all of the main Transformers characters, whenever they appear on screen. Also, there are other pop-up details about the other characters in the movie that appear when these characters are on screen (not ALL the time, but occasionally - sort of like the VH-1 Pop-up Videos).
I understand about watching a movie in its pure, unadulterated form... but some time after you've already seen the movie enough times to get nothing new out of it... these alternatives ARE very entertaining! Most of the time, I watch a movie and that's about all I feel like doing with it. Other times, I might be working on something (building model car, for example) and want to have a movie I enjoy, running the bonus features while I'm working. I don't carry on a conversation or read a book while I watch a movie (usually, the room is too dark to do anything BUT watch the movie). I don't even watch a movie until AFTER I've eaten - no distractions!
For others... perhaps it's just inherent curiosity about how a film is put together, and that's fine - it's just the director in them that will never be.
My suggestion... is to NOT knock what you've always assumed to be useless fluff, until you've tried it - and under the right circumstances. I would NEVER invite people over to watch "Transformers" AND make them watch the version with that add-on running with it (unless THAT were the reason they were there to see it)! My time is too valuable to spend 2 hours watching bonus stuff - unless I can do it while I do something else, too (like posting these lengthy messages)!!
