I finally got today the HD-DVD german imports of Fantastic Four and Rise of the Silver Surfer (gotta love region free HD-DVD's) and I am watching the first movie and just noticed the final battle vs Doom was edited. In the theatrical release (as well the SD-DVD) the F4 defeat Doom by cooling him down with water after super-heating him up, the Thing break a hydrant, sprays the water toward Mr. F who in turn turns into a "S" shape tobogan to channel the water and get Doom.

Well, the german version only shows the Thing breaking the hydrant and when he directs the water to the street, the scene is edited and shows the Thing watering Doom directly by himself. I honestly always thought that having Mr. F channeling the water was redundant because Doom was in the path of the water already, but looks like somebody at "Constantin Film" (the movie's german distributor) decided to take matters into their hands and actually edited the scene. Now that was shocking at best since by now I'm so used to seeing the original sequence with Mr. F in it.

Maybe it was a glitch in the Matrix, I better get off-line before Agents knock down my front door.

In the the the theatrical version of Reign of Fire, (I forget who) goes into the city and on the way, he battles a two headed dragon making a comment something like "Wow a double header," or something like that. That scene was edited out of the SD and I was hoping that it would show up in the HD DVD but, alas, it didn't. It was a bit tounge-in-cheek and I can understand why they canned it.

And this doesn't happen on the blu-ray version, right?

This link should answer all your queries about Fantastic Four :

The version released on the German HD-DVD sounds like its the same as the Hong Kong SD release, there are few more changes than just the finale. Personally I've always preferred the Hong Kong version.
