As I sat watching Rise: Blood Hunter for the third time last night, I thought, "Everyone must have movies like this in their collections. Right?" You know, the kind of movies that, if you thought about it at the time, you would consider hiding when company came over, because you couldn't possibly respond to anyone with a valid reason why you like it - you just do. What are your movies that are generally considered... less than award-worthy, that you just love anyway. Rise is one for me, as is Gotcha! (anyone remember that one?), Firestorm (with Howie Long), Armaggedon and...sigh...Daredevil.

My guilty pleasures are: Rutger Hauer in BLIND FURY, John Carpenter's BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, and the ever so timeless cult hit THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI.

Mine would be:

I'm not ashamed, though, as I feel there's nothing shameful in what you enjoy. . . well, with the exception of "Transformers".

First off to address the post:

I have ~ 400 movies in my collection, some pretty good classics..what ends up in my player all of the time..Sphere (Dustin Hoffman, Samuel L).

Now, Tim .. My PS3 came with 5 free movies. I can assure you that Ultraviolet was not one of the ones that I selected. It ended up on my doorstep anyways..That had to be 1 of the top 5 worst movies I've ever seen...How could it be so..

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace

But really, SIV wasn't such a bad movie, it's highly entertaining, but dated (you can argue all you want, but Superman III is a horrible superhero movie).

Oh, and all the Star Wars prequels...

One movie says it all............ ISHTAR!!!!

Seriously, I love the movie Trapped In Paradise. And beleive it or not, it is tough to find in stores. I love when Nicholas Cage has to walk across the street during the bank robbery, and find the bank presidnet. Dana Carvey is standing there holding a shotgun on a guy and when Nick Cage says what are you doing. And in that voice he says.... "I'm eatting Scrapple, it's got scalions" I piss myself.

Yeah, that's the way most everyone felt about it, but then we are talking about guilty pleasure movies here. I knew "Ultraviolet" was going to be cornball comicbook, but right from the start the movie is presented that way -- therefore I was easily able to put my brain aside and enjoy the cheese.

Here's what's strange, though, most films that come across as too corny, I usually can't stand. So why did I like "Ultraviolet" so much? I have no clue -- it just connected and worked for me on the popcorn level. Everyone has their guilty pleasure movies and what's interesting and fun is taking notice to how open and dynamic the field is with everyone's taste. It's odd how that all works out, as if there is something in chaos theory that might actually explain why we all connect to a certain film that the majority considers trash. Nevertheless, a fun topic to discuss, it is.

Another guilty pleasure of mine:

Now let's face it, most of Seagals films are pure crap. Why I connected with ODG may have to do with playing lead guitar in a rock band while spending close to a year in Alaska back in 1988. The movie does have some good environmental messages, but the overall plot is such a cliche of crap done better in other films. I mean, the whole American Indian spiritual journey crap -- is it possible we can stereotype Indian's anymore than we already have? Nevertheless, I guess I enjoyed it because of location more than anything.

EDIT: And yes, since I did play music in many nightclubs throughout the West Coast in the late 80's, I do love one of the best guilty pleasure films of all time -- "Road House".

I liked Jewel of the Nile, The Last Starfighter, Batteries not Included (remember that one by Steven Spielberg?), Tango and Cash, Bloodsport, Marked for Death, Out for Justice, The Protector, The Transporter, just to name a few.

I'm also ashamed to admit I like Star Wars now because the prequels pretty much ruined the franchise. I also don't brag too much that I like Star Trek but not as much as Star Wars.

So yeah...that's it for me.

EDIT: I just finished watching Blades of Glory. Halirious movie.

Where's the shame in "Galaxy Quest" - that movie is AWESOME!

It's almost Sunday, so here's my confession:

JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY!

(Oh, and I have to agree that "GalaxyQuest" is just too damned good of a movie to feel guilty over watching. I mean, aren't we talking about something that's gotten uniformly bad reviews but you like it all the same? Aren't we talking about a film SO bad, maybe, that you have to whisper it in public? I think the last one I watched for the site that I felt that way about was LITTLE MAN. Stupid as hell, but there were places where I laughed out loud without wanting too, and then looked over at my wife, who was giving me that "what's wrong with you?" look.)

Hey Tim,

You sure that "Up in smoke" isn't too good of a comedy to be considered a guilty pleasure? You're not on Jupiter with that one, are you?

"Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein." But it's not a "guilty" pleasure, just a pleasure.

LMAO!!!

No, but I was pretty stoned.

Falcon,

I have to agree with your choices. Those are some fun old guilty pleasures. Firefox was always a little slow for me, but hey, it's Clint Eastwood! You have to watch it just because it's Clint!

John,

I agree with you'r choice, as well. Really, any Abbott and Costello has always been a riot!
