Ok so I read the thread on here about BEST Buy handing out 50.00 gift cards if you reteurn your HD DVD player you purchased from them. I also sall where you can trade your player and movies at thier trade in center. So I went there, and punched in my A2 along with 11-20 movies and they said they would giver me a wopping $74.00
No thank you BB, I will keep my A2 and the movies that I love.

You don't have to return your player. If you bring your receipt to Best Buy, they will give you a Best Buy gift card as kind of a sorry-you-got-screwed promotion. I got mine this morning.

No, you don't return your HD DVD player... just show your receipt. You get to keep your player and your movies. You can keep your receipt too - just show it at customer service.

Actually, what Best Buy is doing is going through their computer records and automatically sending out $50 gift cards to everyone who bought an HD DVD player from them (up until Feb. 23 of this year). If you bought an HD DVD player from them, you shouldn't have to do anything but wait for your gift card in the mail. The store says they are going through names alphabetically, and everyone should have received their gift card by May 1.

If you feel you qualify but don't receive a gift card by May 1, you can call them (1-888-BEST-BUY) and see why you were missed. Or you can call them now and verify that you're eligible (and even get put on a reserve list in case the computer misses you).

I did not buy my player there, I bought it at Circuit City.

Then I guess you won't get a gift card then.

You can trade in your A2 for 39.60, but im w/ you may as well keep it.

I'd wait. If you're desperate to get rid of it, you can get more on ebay. Otherwise, there is no need to return it. I wouldn't be suprised if Circuit City offered something soon, since everyone else seems to be starting to.

I contacted BB customer service by e-mail, and they told me I had to bring my receipt to the store to get my gift card. Maybe it's different in the U.S., but if you're in Canada, you need to get your gift card yourself - it won't be sent to you.
