Its cheap but i am guessing it doens't up convert like a toshiba hd dvd player

It should upconvert rather well, considering like the Toshiba HD-XA2 it also features the Silicon Optix Reon HQV processor inside.

I picked one up on a fire sale a couple of weeks ago at Best Buy Canada and I am more than happy with it's ability to upconvert as well as play Blu-ray and my collection of HD DVDs...plus it will play the Dolby True HD tracks as well through it's built-in analog outputs
