according to some new info, ps3 users will be able to download standard res versions of BR movies from a PS3 to a PSP. Sounds interesting but i wonder how much data those little gadgets can hold.
Also there seems to be a new PSP in the works. Coinciding with this new info, the PSP may regain it's movie playback features that for the longest time have seemed like a waste.
EDIT: this is supposedly for the new update that has yet to come out. firmware version 2.20

PC WORLD is also reporting the same thing...
The firmware also exposes "Portable Copy," which enables PS3 users to copy a standard-definition version of the Blu-ray movie to a PlayStation Portable (PSP). You can transfer music and photo playlists from the PS3 to the PSP and use the PSP as a remote control for music playback using "Remote Play." DivX and WMV playback functionality has been improved, along with new Internet browser settings and additional AV settings.

I think it may be time to get a PSP. With Tactics and Patapon of course.

Portable copy is simply copying embedded SD file in a Blu-Ray disc, not ripping the HD content. This works only if the Blu-Ray disc contains a pre-made SD file.
Only Sony pictures plan to embed PSP SD file the rest are uninterested. Most plan on iTune and Windows DRM compliant portables, however.

I don't believe this for one reason: The studios would never allow it in the DRM. Especially with how rampant piracy is on the PSP's.

This is a Sony title only feature. The others don't care about PSP.
Right now, Windows DRM is most popular among studios, followed by iTunes. PSP is not on other studio's radar.
