Hi All,
Just wanted to let you know about a new campaign started by a group of web developers. The campaign was started because many people still use Internet Explorer 6 as their main internet browser which causes a lot of headaches for developers and a security threat for the user of the browser.
The Campaign:
DVDTOWN.com supports the campaign and you can read more on:

Say no to IE 6! Our current campaign focuses on assisting users in upgrading their Internet Explorer 6 web browser. This campaign will result in former IE 6 users having a more enjoyable experience on the web while (hopefully) creating a less stressful and complicated environment for web developers by hastening the retirement of an outdated browser.

I agree with the group, as I have to develop many of my company's sites for many browsers including IE6. It would be nice if everyone that uses IE just upgrade to IE7. However, many of the clients I create sites for are huge corporate, fortune 500 company's that have been using IE6 for years, and expesne wise, they're kind of locked into it until they can come up with a cost effective solution for upgrading thousands of employees. I know us geeks think, just go to MS and download the new browser. Sounds easy, but many businesses will not let their own employees download anything and it is usually handled by an IT department. Therefore, us developers could still be stuck with working around IE6, probably until the end of the year as some businesses do not plan on having upgrades installed until then.

Personally I prefer:
Apple Safari
Mozilla Firefox
However, if you like to use Internet Explorer a upgrade to 7 is still much better than staying at 6.

Falcon,
go here:
http://www.download.com/Browsers/?tag=dvdtown-20
Great place to get info on what's going on in the browser world. You can view most popular or top rated. Plus, read reviews from users.
My favorite browsers are Avant, IE7, Firefox and Opera. All of them run pretty smooth and the Avant browser I've had the least issues of the suggested four.

Cool thanks guys. Believe it or not I used to be a web developer once (I used to design web pages by writing the code, no web design software) but now I'm so out of the loop I don't know whats going on anymore

Yup! I've been using Firefox for quite a few years now. I just wish that managing the "bookmarks" (similar to "Favorites" in IE) were a little more intuitive. Other than that, it's great!
Yes... some of the add-ons don't work well. I would suggest that if you use/try Firefox, and something doesn't work right... that you DO let them know about it. I've reported some issues in the past, and they HAVE been fixed since then! I don't know if "my" report got it taken care of, or if it was reports from multiple users... but "The squeaky wheel gets the grease!", I say.
I suppose I should make a big issue about the bookmarks management - perhaps it will get results?!

I really can't wait for Firefox 3.0 to be released. I tried the Beta but... at this point half of the add-ons I use don't work so... it wasn't worth it to me yet.

Some Major corporations cannot do the upgrade because IE7 hasn't passed gov't CFR section 11 testing. Any FDA regulated facility is Shit out of luck because if any of your companies systems are web based they have only cleared IE6 for use on some of those programs.
Most companies won't use IE7 for at least 6-12 more months, especially most under government contract or regulated by the FDA.
At home I use Firefox and IE7, mostly Firefox, but at work I am stuck with IE6.
We just received FDA approval to switch to MS office 2003. All the security testing just was validated 3 months ago.

Just like edtior-in-chief Henning, I use both Firefox and Safari on my new 2007 Apple iMac.
(and occasionally Netscape's Navigator, although it's support is on the way out)

I began using Safari since February, and had some problems, which were solved with the new upgrade...I don't like Firefox that much, but it doesn't give me headaches as IE...which I updated to 7, but still, more prone to getting infected.

I'd like to thank Tim for putting me on to the Avant browser:
http://www.avantbrowser.com/
Avant is built on the IE7 base, but it's faster, faster by far than Firefox or IE7 or even Opera, all of which seem clunky by comparison. What's more, it's easier to customize and streamline than any other browser. I mean, it comes with something like two dozen different skins, and it's got more add-ons and blockers and such than you can count. Finally, it's free and without advertising. So far, in almost two years of use, it's never given me a problem.
I have five browsers on my desktop: Avant, IE7, Firefox 2, Opera, and an old edition of Netscape (Eddie, I kid you not). I almost never use anything but the Avant.

Well,
I use both Firefox and IE7. They both work pretty well, however I tend to stick with Firefox for personal viewing, not to mention some of the really cool online games (ogame - http://www.ogame.org) have a number of plugins available only to firefox users. From a work standpoint, many of the web applications that I work with use ActiveX controls which of course are Microsoft's IP..so I'm kind of forced to continue using it..but its certainly better then it used to be.
Anyways

The only problem I run into with Firefox is that Netflix Instant View only works in IE. So I have both, Firefox being the preferred browser. Multiple tabs open without opening new windows, no ads, fully customizable...that's what I'm talking about.

I've tried twice to upgrade from IE6 to IE7 and it has bombed out my computer twice - the second time I ahd to reboot from the initial startup disks. So no more of that.
I'm begun using Firefox because we tend to need that to work here at DVDTown. It's fine, but it randomly freezes up on me at least every other day, forcing me to Ctrl-Alt-Del my way out of it. I never had that problem with IE6. Also, the constant updates that Firefox forces down your throat are annoying. "Firefox will automatically update the next time it is started." Man, f-- you, I'll download an update if and when I want it, you fascist!
