Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know about a new campaign started by a group of web developers. The campaign was started because many people still use Internet Explorer 6 as their main internet browser which causes a lot of headaches for developers and a security threat for the user of the browser.

The Campaign:
Quote:
Say no to IE 6! Our current campaign focuses on assisting users in upgrading their Internet Explorer 6 web browser. This campaign will result in former IE 6 users having a more enjoyable experience on the web while (hopefully) creating a less stressful and complicated environment for web developers by hastening the retirement of an outdated browser.

DVDTOWN.com supports the campaign and you can read more on:

I agree with the group, as I have to develop many of my company's sites for many browsers including IE6. It would be nice if everyone that uses IE just upgrade to IE7. However, many of the clients I create sites for are huge corporate, fortune 500 company's that have been using IE6 for years, and expesne wise, they're kind of locked into it until they can come up with a cost effective solution for upgrading thousands of employees. I know us geeks think, just go to MS and download the new browser. Sounds easy, but many businesses will not let their own employees download anything and it is usually handled by an IT department. Therefore, us developers could still be stuck with working around IE6, probably until the end of the year as some businesses do not plan on having upgrades installed until then.

Personally I prefer:

Apple Safari
Mozilla Firefox

However, if you like to use Internet Explorer a upgrade to 7 is still much better than staying at 6.

Falcon,

go here:

Great place to get info on what's going on in the browser world. You can view most popular or top rated. Plus, read reviews from users.

My favorite browsers are Avant, IE7, Firefox and Opera. All of them run pretty smooth and the Avant browser I've had the least issues of the suggested four.

Cool thanks guys. Believe it or not I used to be a web developer once (I used to design web pages by writing the code, no web design software) but now I'm so out of the loop I don't know whats going on anymore

Yup! I've been using Firefox for quite a few years now. I just wish that managing the "bookmarks" (similar to "Favorites" in IE) were a little more intuitive. Other than that, it's great!

Yes... some of the add-ons don't work well. I would suggest that if you use/try Firefox, and something doesn't work right... that you DO let them know about it. I've reported some issues in the past, and they HAVE been fixed since then! I don't know if "my" report got it taken care of, or if it was reports from multiple users... but "The squeaky wheel gets the grease!", I say.

I suppose I should make a big issue about the bookmarks management - perhaps it will get results?!

I really can't wait for Firefox 3.0 to be released. I tried the Beta but... at this point half of the add-ons I use don't work so... it wasn't worth it to me yet.
