I successfully downloaded and installed the 2.20 PS3 update yesterday (sorry Tony).
I tried to use the new "Resume Play" feature and could not seem to get it to work (BD started from beginning again)! Did anyone out there get it to work? If so...HOW?!

Try re-installing the update?
Be careful though. Use the USB key.

Hey Wolfen, it's all good
. All I can say is if it's not broke then don't fix it. Thank your lucky stars that your PS3 is still functional. As my father would say if you have to run thru a lion's den don't do it with pork chop underwear .
Take Falcon's advice.

Thanks Falcon, but once you download an update - that's it. From my understanding, you can't overwrite the newest update - with the newest update. I did some reading and it looks like (I think) the resume play feature will work on ALL standard DVDs and SOME (not all) BDs.
Skyhawk...you out there? Have you tried using this feature yet?

Tony...
I don't know if I could do w/o my PS3 and Blu-Ray flicks! Take Wifey's advice and buy a new one. When your old one is repaired, you can put it in your bedroom or something!

When I get it back the Panny BD50 hopefully will be here to take over Blu-ray duties. No matter what happens it will not go back to playing Blu-ray movies.

wolfen, I haven't tried it yet, but I read in another forum you have to press stop on your remote (or whatever the equivalent is on the controller) to exit to the PS3 menu. It's at that point apparently that the data is written to keep track of where you left off.

Don't know if this matters but I noticed during the pre-installation screen where info about the update was being displayed there was a short statement that the resume play feature may not work for every movie. Maybe that is the problem? Try another disc and see if it will work.

I have not tried that 'new' feature yet with my(well, arguably my kids) PS3, but if it is supposed to be included and is not working properly, don't be surprised if Sony releases PS3 firmware version 2.21 in the next couple of weeks as a bug fix to 2.20
We already see 2.20 making several PS3's into Bricks, so evidently Sony has a few issues with their new firmware.
Although many PS3 owners on the board have successfully upgraded to 2.20 without any apparent problems, it might pay other PS3 owners to wait a few weeks to see if there are any real issues, and if Sony will be issuing an other patch shortly
Anything to save someone's PS3 a 3 week trip to the repair shop, and a potential $150 charge for their PS3 to be fixed, due to a botched firmware update.
If you have already installed firmware 2.20 successfully on your PS3, please try experimenting with the list of new features that are supposed to be included, and promptly notify Sony if anything is not working properly.
Thanks !!

Yup, it seems that any current disk that's run with BD-Java will not be compatible with the resume feature. It makes sense, since the actual Java code that starts the first xlet would need to first check the bookmark in order to advance to that point. Since the code on the disk was written before this update...

Thanks to all for input and suggestions.
In particular:
Chemteam
Falcon
Skyhawk
Tony
VideoCipher
I went back and tried SDVDs and the new feature worked - on ALL tested.
The new feature also worked on some BDs - but not ALL (BD-Java).
Again...THANKS!
