InvisibleBiker, the Ring must have really scared you because I noticed you listed that one twice!
See I was smart when I watched this. I made sure I skipped over the parts where they showed the VHS video, just in case. I'm no fool you know. Plus my wife was totally annoying when we watched this. Every time that girl in the TV came on, my wife would put her long hair over her face, get in front of the projection screen, and pretend she was coming for me.

Skyhawk, if that movie was scary to you then that would be grounds for divorce.

We just saw "the Mist" this afternoon. My first warning should have been the lil' gal at the rental counter at Rogers video saying "are you sure you want to waste your star rewards points on this one?". OK, so this movie supposedly taught me two important things:
Edit: <removed with explanation>
It wasn't the race or religion of the two characters who so unbelievably influenced those around them to make equally unbelievable (and bad) choices, but the fact that it was those Hollywood-style divisive differences that supposedly made them followers to begin with. I thought this bordered on the offensive. One minute "my people" is mentioned the next minute ... well I won't give anything away.
I know there was a writer's strike, but you can only go so far exploiting extreme tired stereotypes as an easy way to explain any illogical motivations that (normally) regular people might have.
So thanks for those lessons Hollywood! I appreciate it! Now can I have those 2 hours of my life back now?
And where was Darabont? I would have fired the entire cast if they couldn't get it right even after 200 takes. The performances except for maybe 3 older folk who played minor parts are atrocious. Yes I know that critics liked this, but it's hard to suspend disbelief when the far-out movie premise is accompanied by over-acting that makes William Shatner look subtle.
And wow, I guess it's been a long time since I've feed my setup a standard DVD. Gosh it looked crappy!

I totally respect your opinion.
But I saw the movie a little different. To me it was more like
1. People will turn to the insane in time of crisis. (Mrs. Carmody was established as being insane)
2. In a horror/sci fi you never follow a man of pure reason who bases all his decisions on logic (Brent Norton was clearly the most worldly man in the story being a lawyer) and well if you know S. King if you are a lawyer is pretty much end up a feeder fish in any of his storys.
The ending was a bit much for me but it did give us food for thought.
I enjoyed it but then again I am a huge Twilight Zone geek :O)

Twilight Zone? You mean William Shatner with that plane thing?
Seriously, I love all those episodes. My parents didn't like me watching it so much growing up.... but errr... I turned out normal.

I recommend an old movie called I Spit on your Grave...more of a revenge movie not really a horror flick but some of the things this women does to the 5 or so guys that rapped her was pretty nasty...even if they deserved it...The scene in the bathtube will have you holding your crotch for a while...hehehe

OK, so this movie supposedly taught me two important things:
1. Christian people will surely sacrifice you in times of trouble.
2. Black people are stupid.
I hope you aren't serious about #2. I am black and I didn't get that impression at all. This comment kinda offends me. I'm a little older and from my experience stupidity crosses all racial and socioeconomic boundaries. I think Steven King knew this too.
And as far as #1 goes that lady doesn't represent a true Christian by any means. I likened her more to a cult leader like David Koresh, quoting the Bible out of context and everything just to suite her own purposes.
