I really don't see any possibility of Blu Ray releases from Paramount/Dreamworks or Universal in the near future, so it would be best served to watch the foreign market releases for any chance of obtaining this film on ANY HDM format.
Sweeney Todd is unique, in that the non-US version of the film was supposed to be more graphic(due to bloody violence), and the MPAA had to have the film edited down to obtain an R rating because it would have otherwise pulled an NC-17 rating, and many theaters would have refused to show the film at all.
It sounds like the foreign releases would be much more desirable, because they would be much closer to being an "Unrated", directors cut.
As soon as it is might be determined that the UK Blu Ray release is NOT region locked, I will have it on Pre-Order Immediately.

View profile »Well, I can't find that other recent thread where I made a post about SWEENEY TODD on Blu-ray (May 19), so I'll just make a note here... the film (for now) is only going to be released in HD on a UK Blu-ray from Warner Brothers. Thankfully, Warner very rarely releases 'region-locked' discs (or Region B for the UK), so you can probably think now that STodd will be playable on Region A players. You'll pay a higher price for the UK edition (probably $35 to $40), but for some it may be worth it to get it in HD.
One way to know for sure is by checking with the staff at xploitedcinema.com (USA), as they only carry 'region-free' Blu-ray discs on their site. So, you can email them an inquiry note, or wait and see if the title will show up for sale around the release date (or shortly after). Or search other newsgroups, blogs, etc for discussions of the title. Blurayregioncodes.com at this moment doesn't list the title on their Region B list.

View profile »Unless in error, Amazon UK has now confirmed that the forthcoming UK Blu-ray of SWEENEY TODD is in fact Region-FREE, so will play on all worldwide BD players. This has been part of a discussion on the US Amazon.com website.
So, this probably means (if true) that the disc will probably be carried by Ohio's Xploitedcinema.com soon (for anyone wanting to buy it here (domestically in NA). Keep checking that site's "New Products" as they always add the latest releases at the top of Page 1, and push the previous "new products" further down the list.

Jimi, That is what is listed on the pre-order slate that it is All Region(ABC), as well as what they are telling me via email.
No one has been able to furnish me with the back cover artwork that actually shows the Region Code label yet.
The Price is a little high, but there is no signs of Dreamworks releasing it Domestically on Blu Ray anytime soon, so I am going after the UK Blu Ray release from Warner Brothers.
It is supposed to be un-cut (which is actually more graphic, and has more actual "cutting" than the US release).
I don't believe that Warner Bros. has region coded ANYTHING on Blu Ray to date, so it looks good to go.
Worst case the Japanese release is on June 6th, and that will DEFINITELY be Region A.
My wife just picked up the Showtime/BBC release of "The Tudors Season 1" on Blu Ray from Amazon.UK that is distributed by Sony, and it too is Region Free, for anyone interested in Pay TV Series on Blu.
Ten Episodes on 3 Blu Ray discs, and it comes up at around 27 pounds with the shipping, so figure just under $55US delivered.

View profile »> Ohio-based Xploited Cinema has the 'Region-ALL' (not locked) new Blu-ray Hi-Def release of SWEENEY TODD now available for sale (<click link), for $39.95 + $2.98 media mail shipping (or $3.79 for 1st Class) - includes lots of bonus content. The site has great fast service, usually ships within 24-48 hours.
Note: this is a specially-constructed 'steel book' edition (becoming common on UK releases)...
