With all the events recently happening it seems that the once consistent posting on this site has dramatically reduced for this particular discussion forum. Will this forum soon go the way of the HDDVD?
It looks like it... numbers have only been trickling in recently, it is kind of sad. Have hddvd adopters put aside their anger and moved into the acceptance phase of death? Have BR supporters nothing more to say and moved onto the next battle with dvd? I for one would like to be the first to speak my condolences. I had a great time!

Sigh, why must you try to push buttons and instigate.
This site is doing quite well. Just because you don't see the loonies come in here and repeatedly posting piecharts it doesn't mean the site is down...in fact the intellect level has probably gone WAY up. We talk about other stuff now which is nice for a change and even some old foes are talking as friends or comrades.
Change is good my friend. Embrace it.

falcon, im just saying that just today there were maybe 20 posts.... all day.
some days, it's more, but when i first joined there were like 100 posts every day it was great.
just feels really slow day by day. There are some random exceptions like if a thread is really controversial, but every day i come on it seems like nobody has posted anything... especially in the last three days, there has probably been only 50 posts.

pro,
Given that you've only been a member since November 2007, about five months, you may not have a firm grasp of the situation. The posts you witnessed during the last days of the format battle were not typical of the DVDTOWN Message Board. Over the last year, things became rather hectic and combative here, what with fans and fanatics of both camps tearing each other to pieces. Please judge us by the quality of our posters, not by the quantity of their posts. These days, things have returned to normal. I know. I've been here for going on eleven years.
But we would welcome your input on new threads. Particularly if you're writing about movies rather than formats.
John

John knows what he's talking about. The kind of stuff we were getting on some of these boards at the end of '07/beginning of '08 is the kind of traffic we can happily do without.

DVD Town has been around since 1997. It's lasted 11 years, and was around long before the HD formats were on anyone's minds. I'm sure DVD Town will be around long after HDDVD and Blu ray are forgotten about.
DVD Town essentially, has been, and probably will continue to be about movies, whatever their format.

prof,
20 posts a day is typical of many message boards. I've been around about as long as you so I don't know what's typical for this particular boards, but it seems to be about on par with the average forum. DVDTown is very popular and I don't see it going away any time soon. I plan to do my small part to make sure of that.
I am a little confused about your subject though. What does HD DVD and Blu-Ray dying have to do with this site going under?

Hi I'm new to this site and I am very confused about the future of HD-DVD and BR-DVD.
I Thought the format that was going to be phased out completely was HD and BR was going to be the format to continue on into the future based on what Toshiba recently did.Am I misinformed ?

Welcome!
The person who started this thread made an odd choice for the subject. His post had absolutely nothing to do with either format, he was speculating on the future of this website. I don't know why he worded it the way he did, but I don't see Blu-Ray or DVDTown going anywhere anytime soon.
The last American HD DVD release I believe will be Twister, and it will be released near the end of April. After that it is possible that we will see a few new HD DVD releases, mega blockbusters only. This has not been confirmed though. As far as I know this is just internet speculation, and I personally do not think it is going to happen. That doesn't mean that it won't happen, I just don't expect it to. There are only a handful of HD DVDs set to be released, but there are several hundred already available and they can be found very cheap at major retail chains (if any are left in stock), Amazon.com, eBay, online DVD retailers and many other locations. I wouldn't be surprised to see HD DVDs popping up more and more in places like Pawn Shops, Craigslist and overstock/discount stores such as Value City and Big Lots. But as far as any type of a future goes for HD DVD, those faint sounds you hear are the dying gasps of the format.
Blu-Ray (it's official name, not Blu-Ray DVD) is currently the official format for high definition movies. It is possible that another format could come along and force BR to go the way of HD DVD, but it's not likely. Many consumers are still stinging from the loss of HD DVD and many more have yet to switch over BR, so I don't anticipate another format war anytime soon.
I have yet to adopt an HD format, but I am going to start building an HD DVD collection before I switch over to Blu-Ray. The main reason for this is that I believe that HD DVD is the superior format. Plus, I can get it cheap right now. That's a huge plus for me because I'm also starting on some DIY hobbies that are going to take a lot of time and money.
If you haven't invested in either format, I guess your best bet would be to go straight for Blu-Ray, but HD DVD has a lot to offer and should not be over looked.

Ok Let's mix it up. I'm new but might as well jump right in .First let me thank Fumbled for his reply to my post which was very informative and helpful. The reason I came on this site was to get the lowdown on the whole HD BR debate. It happens that back in Dec. I was going to get a player for Christmas but because of the controversy I held off.I also forgot that I had ordered a HD-DVD of the Led Zep" The Song Remains The Same "It was on back order from Amazon and just arrived today. What the hell should I do with it ? Fumbled, you said that HD was the better of the 2 which is contrary to what I have heard so far. Did you mean technologically speaking or otherwise.Yeah and that dude that started this thread did not talk anything about the topic title.

lol, you foolish people, scroll up to the top of the page and look at the gray bar highlighting message board. Click on it, then navigate to this forum by clicking on "HDDVD and BluRay".
Now then, what does my title say?
Was that too much over your heads? I thought i was simple.

EDIT: yes dub, if someone mentions that HDDVD > Bluray then they are probably talking about tech wise specs and price and such. Generally Bluray>HDDVD in terms of continued studio support, and future imho.
2nd EDIT: Well, not that i want to differ particularly with anyone, but i do not agree with the idea that the intellectual posting ratio has increased.

What did you think people were going to assume when you mentioned HD DVD and Blu-Ray? You didn't say the HD/BR board, you implied that you were talking about the formats. Way to outsmart everyone there, big guy.

lol it's only your fault that you got outsmarted by a well placed double entendre.
immediately the heading strikes people as "huh?". This kind of topic has not been unpopular in recent weeks what with CH-DVD and downloads and dvd2, so it had some credibility as a topic header.
However, this board is also called HDDVD and Blu RAY, and posting frequency has gone down a lot in the past few weeks. Just look how long it took for you to reply to this, 2 days.
So in the end, it was a play on words of something not unfamiliar to this site, and i took it a different way, a way that i felt was entirely credible until i was informed that the past few months of posting insanity was not normal.
why are you defensive about this, it was a play on words and some of you didn't notice it, too bad.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't realize that was the title of this board. I never really paid attention to what I was clicking on (I just memorized the link's placement on my screen) until I got to this board. But what makes you think this board would be going anywhere? I would imagine it gets the most traffic, even in this post-format war era.

I still prefer HD DVD. Even though my computer is the most advanced Blu-Ray machine out there, I still find the HD DVD format the nicest and smoothest running. My ATI remote wonder is great, and works well with powerdvd-hd, and I can watch everything on a BR, but something isn't quite right yet? The latest JAVA updates seem to be working ok, but I still get the odd hang-up when accessing the special features menu's? Maybe its the software, or still the bugs in the disks? Have you guys seens the 2 seconds blue or red screen yet? It reminds me of when HD first came out when the started rolling out HDCP. It hangs up for a second then, plays the material? Weird, I don't know what it is. I have tried killing ANYDVD HD and re-enabling it, and no avail. By the way that software rules!!!
Have you guys seen those hang ups yet?
