The digitalbits posted some news on the restoration of the Godfather films...could they be available by the end of the year in a double-dip or blu-ray?
Oh, and the link is to the BBFC page for THE GODFATHER TRILOGY RESTORED 2008 BONUS DISC BONUS MATERIALS...

It's about time! The Godfather movies are WAY overdue for a restoration. I would love to get my hands on a really well done Godfather trilogy.

Paramount executives have not made any announcement about the availability of the remastered "Godfather" trilogy in the U.S., either on SD or BD. However, here's a bit of information on the subject that seems to indicate a September release date:

Thanks John!
I own the regular special edition, but would love to see a remastered and improved edition, visually speaking of course...by the way, how good is the saga that stitches together all three movies?

mvckalel, I've never seen "The Godfather Saga," probably because I never watch enough broadcast TV even to notice when such things are on. However, IMDb's readers seem to love it:

Personally, the idea of presenting the Corleone story in chronological order (The "Saga" takes the first two movies and re-edits them with additional deleted scenes) seems like it would sort of take the life of the thing. I rather enjoyed the flashback style of "Godfather II." But, as I say, I've never seen it, so I shoudln't comment on it.

I agree with John...I would rather watch the first two movies as they stand.
Godfather III...hmm...I'll leave that for the diehards...
btw - dvd.co.uk swapped the header on my HD-DVD reservation to the SD-DVD version
needless to say, I cancelled it...

According to Wikipedia, there is a The Godfather Trilogy 1901-1980, but I think G3 doesn't have a way to fit with the first two...however, all the deleted scenes on the Godfather Saga would be interesting to see incorporated as a seamless branching experience...
EDIT: By the way, it says that the Saga has a running time of 434 minutes, and the Trilogy 583...by any chance, do you own this on LD Hendrix?
Also John, any chance of you reviewing the UK boxset any time soon??
