YO what's crackin guys! I'm lookin for the best option to go Blu in the near future. I currently own an A-2 player for my HD DVD so I was thinkin of getting a dual player, but with all the bad press it's been getting I'm not too sure if that's a smart bet. Also most of the bugs with dual players are from playing BD discs. Why is that? How is the play back on HD DVD's? I know LG is currently still backing dual players and having updates on their players so that was one option.
Or I can just get a Blu-Ray player but that's a tough choice too. I know a lot of people are saying to get a PS3 but I'm the type that likes to buy a dedicated player and use it for what it's used for. I know panasonic will come out or already has came out with their new player and that's suppose to be the best on the market but the PS3 is the only player now to get profile 2.0. Is there any reasons why other players cannot get profile 2.0? And reading this article http://www.dvdtown.com/news/playstation-3-not-the-best-blu-ray-player-you-can-buy/5380 made me want a dedicated player because I want all the bells and whistles and the PS3 lacks a few.
Overall I'm still undecided so I was wonder what are your guys' take on Blu players and what would you suggest? Should I get the PS3 since it's affordable and can get all the updates available or wait for a good dedicated player. Thanks!!

It's a tough choice but I'm waiting for the reviews on the Panasonic BD50 which is supposed to be profile 2.0 compliant. The current Panasonic BD30 is profile 1.1 which is good enough for most people, you just don't get the web features, big deal. The majority want to watch the movie and check out the extras which you can do with profile 1.1 players.

The ps3 offers alot of bang for the buck and regardless of what that article said,it is a very good bluray player. Award winning really. And if you ever throw a game into it (call of duty 4,will blow your mind)well it will do that too. Alot of the crap in that article was just fanboy and general comedy. I own one and wouldnt trade it for any standalone player. It is really that great. JUMP!

Personally i'd wait till profile 2.0 is standard. Then wait just a tad longer to see if they are gonna change the hardware spec AGAIN!! If they change the hardware spec and release a profile after 2.0 I am gonna skip Blu altogether. I simply won't have my money sucked from my bank account in that manner.

Is that the only difference with 1.1 and 2.0? and what's the difference between bd+ and bd live?

I've seen what the ps3 can do blu ray wise and it's probably the best bang for the buck like you said. I'm still considering it, but I just would prefer a stand alone player. If all else fails, I would not mind gettin a ps3 for a player and plus grand turismo is comin out soon. I'll see what's up.

That's one main reason (besides price) why I've been holdin off on bd. I guess I just want somethin finalized so I don't have to keep upgrading within six months or so.
Thanks for all the info and insights. If you guys have anymore I'd like to hear them. Imma eventually go Blu since being in the film industry we have to keep up with the times, Imma wait and see, til then, Imma do more research and also check out that bd50. Peace!

Personallly i don't know what the big deal is with bd live...i have it and used on on my ps3 and will probably never use it again....i hardly use the extra features on bd alone....so unless you are into watching all the extras including those on the web, by all means wait for a stand alone 2.0 profile, if not, get one now....the current ones do the job well at playing movies....well good luck with your choice....

You remind me of me. I wanted a SA player, got a ps3 just cause. now want an SA player still.
1-Ended up not playing the ps3. I like 360 live way better.
2-The ps3 looks pretty and shiny, but the form factor looks weird with the other equipment.
3-Cant control with my Logitech universal remote, unless buy something else.
4- is not a SA player.
im going to go with the panny currently out. have a buyer for my ps3. even if after i get the new panny, im ogin to need a player for the bedroom anyhow. just waiting on some reward points.

I second that, I strongly suggest for you to wait to see if the 2.0 profile is really the "final" profile for blu-ray and also (like in my case) wait to black friday to see if there is any 2.0 BD on sale that day. Although I seriously doubt it.

But the games are there and like I said Call of Duty 4 and Gran Turismo will probably make you forget about watching bluray alltogether. You can't throw those in a standalone player. I am not a hardcore gamer anymore but I must say that it is very nice to have that option. And who cares what the darn machine looks like? Do you want to watch the ps3 or do you want to watch what the ps3 is doing??? Once fired up.....it could be neon pink with a cute little bunny on it for all I care.

Yea I think I'll wait awhile for bd players to get 2.0, improve and get a lil cheaper. Maybe by Nov. they'll be more players out there for a good price. Thanks for the info guys

YO what's crackin guys. I made my decision on what Blu-ray to get. Imma be goin with the PS3 metal gear solid edition. The fact that it's the only player that can get every upgrade and it's affordable is why i'm gettin it. Plus it's gun metal! That's what sold me. Hah!! When I get it I'll post up pics. Time to start buying BD movies so when June 12th comes I got somethin to watch! Thanks for all the info again ya'll!! Peace!
