The BEST Movie of all time?

Ok all these threads about the best and worst actors, comedies etc. In your opinion, what is the BEST movie ever made?


Citezen Kane is my pick and The Deer Hunter is right behind.

"Best" and "worst" are relative terms (relative only to the person proclaiming them...and their relatives). I only know about favorites. Mine is "Casablanca."

If I had to pick a favorite:

Before Sunset

one of the few films to get close to the live dramatic works that i witness being presented onstage in my line of work, which is theatre. Simply a wonderful moviegoing experience every time I view it.

"Honey, you are going to miss that plane."

"I know."

Fade to black.

Classic!

Oddly enough, my favorties may change after the years pass. I can't say which is my all time favorite, but at the time, there are a few I'd put up there for critical and personal reasons. I think it's all in how great films connect with yourself. Mine, at the time, are:

Godfather 1 & 2
Braveheart
American Beauty

The Empire Strikes Back...

Casablanca, Citizen's Kane, Godfather 1&2, The Deer Hunter, It's a Wonderful Life, Gone With the Wind, Ben-Hur, are all excellent choices, but American Beauty??... Uh, no - definitely NOT "the BEST movie of all time".

The Wizard of Oz.....Scary good.
The Empire Strikes Back....That was some messed up s***t at the time.

I disagree...American Beauty may not be the best movie of all time, but it is definitely on my top 20 list.
