Eddie, dude... The African Queen has never been released on DVD in Region 1 (which is probably what the other poster was implying).
And I -did- read your review of The Devil and Daniel Webster - that's why I didn't link it(!), as I, like John, consider a great film, one of our all-time classics, and I own the Criterion LaserDisc in my collection. Obviously, it's not one of your favorites.

jimi,
sorry, but you can't read john's mind. john likes the performances, but he doesn't necessarily think that the movie is a classic. i know because i discussed the movie with him back when i reviewed it.

Well Eddie... I believe most of us consider many in the RKO catalog true classics of cinema, but if -you- want to disagree... uh... OK.
(just don't let Ted Turner know of your opinion, since several years ago he purchased a lot of their films... you know).

jimi,
just because a movie is old doesn't make it a classic.

Yeah I now ^this Eddie... (hint - that's why I wrote in above post the words 'most of us' (about RKO) - see? ...so that's -not- including you)
As Dave Mason sings...
So let's leave it alone, 'cause we can't see eye to eye.
There ain't no good guys, there ain't no bad guys.
There's only, you and, me and, we just disagree.

Did I hear my name?
I used to show "The Devil and Daniel Webster" (sometimes titled "Daniel and the Devil" or "All That Money Can Buy"
to classes all the time after reading the stage play. While it is not one of my all-time favorite movies, it does have one of my favorite performances in it: Walter Huston as the devil. That alone makes it a good film.
So I like it a lot more than Eddie does but not as much as some people do. I also like the musical score, the creepy staging, and the general atmosphere. I don't particularly like the mother's part, the mushy sentimentality, the goofy love triangle that never rings true, or the main character's sudden change of heart at the end. I'd give it a 7/10 at best, which is still good and recommendable.
