Now, "No Country for Old Men" IMHO shouldn't have won best picture for 2007.

I liked it, but I'd have to agree with you Skyhawk. Personally, I felt most movies for 2007 were pretty weak, but they can't be good years everytime, i guess.

Yet another overreaction (noticed by Chris and others) as seen here...

"Is it possible that you could look ever more like the bully in the sandbox trying to make me look like a fool for mentioning the film? IMO, that's how it came across to me and I will not sit idle while you try to make me look like a fool for my choice."

So now I'm a 'bully' - that's your soap opera in action again Tim. My simple critique against A.B., was NOT a personal attack against you - yet this is how you obviously read it. And nothing I say here apparently will convince you otherwise. It's obvious you don't respect some people here (like myself) when posting criticisms (especially about one of your opinions), make wrong conclusions, take it to a personal level (and political level, for some strange reason!). And it's obvious that when somebody stands up against you (and Eddie) occasionally, it hurts your 'pride', which results in even more personal attacks.

Here's a question... Why is it that I can 'read' you clearly, but you can't read me, and misunderstand a simple, short "thumbs down" critique of American Beauty NOT being "the BEST movie of all time"???? (and here's some extra ?? marks for you to enjoy).

Bonus pic below of a 'grindhouse' parody poster someone made for A.B. - and PULEASE don't take it as a personal attack...

> Another GREAT movie that can be considered one of best movies of all time (no modern remake is needed) - even the original silent film version is outstanding!

Apparently you are NOT reading me clearly. And it would appear you want to keep this going for another day. Therefore, I'm out, I'm done! I'm not going to keep contributing to this nonsense and making us BOTH look like a couple asses for another day.

Cheers and best of luck, Love.

Most everyone has a favorite film version of DRACULA (or Nosferatu), and so might be considered under this thread's topic.

I like just about all of them (including the various parodies, like Love at First Bite), but my very fav is the 1979 version directed by John Badham, starring Laurence Olivier, Frank Langella, and Donald Pleasence, etc. Great make-up, costumes, cinematography, special visual effects (by Albert Whitlock)... but another primary reason is the fantastic musical score by the legendary John Williams. I would love to see this film remastered for Blu-ray Hi-Def!

Tim, I finally watched "Atonement" last night after having that zip rental sitting on the shelf for almost 5 days. My delay was because I find a lot of "period movies" just bore the heck out of me.

Although I liked "No Country for Old Men", I found Atonement to be a better movie. Or at least one that moved me more. Yeah, it has its flaws and it's a bit slow in parts and confusing due to the shifting temporal sequences. But Atonement was also beautiful to look at. The cinematography and camera composition were top-notch - almost too good. It was like the "law of 3rds" in visual composition were applied for every shot in every scene. The use of creative depth-of-field and selective focus were amazing too. Check out that scene where the girls are lying in the field and notice that perfect bokeh! I just had to "rewind" right after seeing it, and went frame by frame through that part again.

Juno is next for me to see, but I've heard good things from friends who saw it in the theater.

American Beauty is a classic in my book, and probably somewhere in my top 20 movies to see of all time.

I watched my free copy of Syriana last night. I really liked it. I'm surprised I didn't see it sooner.

Yeah, John was telling me he liked it much better than NCFOM. I seem to remember he said it would have been his pick for Best Picture. Sounds like a good risk for a blind buy, so looks like I'll need to go pick it up this week.

I, too, am looking forward to Juno. I think it comes out this Tuesday, therefore it appears I'll be making a run to Best Buy. lol

Yeah, I certainly agree with you there. There's just something about that film that I'm drawn to, and I really can't explain it other than to say it was just very well crafted. I think of all the movies I own, that one ends up in my player at least a dozen times throughout the year. It's always difficult to say what would be in my top-20 as it seems to change from year to year, but "American Beauty" is certainly high up in there. As of now, it's somewhere high in my top-10.

Cheers.

One of the BEST comedies of all time... (thanks Neil Simon!) - excellent choice for your DVD collection

And I recommend to AVOID the lame remake (with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn) - very few funny moments.
