Hi all,
So I'm an avid HD-DVD person but have stumbled upon a legit opportunity to buy a used BDP-s301 for an even 200. Would this be a nice inexpensive way for me to go purple? I would really like to wait for a 2.0 player, but the price on this deal is drawing me in....
Reviews for the machine are less than stellar, and I do not care for the web enabled features (i only have a wireless network in my place, and one solitary hard line that goes to my dsl modem, so can't even access the online capabilities of my A3) so do I need to worry about lack of support for current and future discs? Mainly want to be able to view the films with no problems, and lack of access to special features is not a big deal.
Andy thoughts on this would be very welcomed. (now I just have to get an hdmi switcher if i make the purchase, knew the one hdmi slot would run out quickly!)

The new Philips profile 1.1 Blu-ray player (m/n BDP7200) is about to be released to the masses, and it will retail online for less than $350. It will be able bitstream all of the audio codecs, and it will also have a fast disc loading time. I'd wait for that instead.

$200 seems like a no brainer to me. I would buy it and use it until a fully featured Blu player could be had for the same money....which will probably be another year.

Thanks for all the advice, even that not meant to actually help.
The main reason that I was asking is that I am on a pretty thight (as in very low) budget for such things and would likely not replace the bluray player any time in the near future, if ever. Hence my wondering if it would serve the purpose of playing the film portion of bluray releases in the future. Would hate it if my daughter would not be able to be spoiled by upcoming bluray titles!
And I agree that 200 is a no brainer, but as I said before it is a sizable chunk of my measly postal service data entry wage (compared to career people or those actually doing something in their chosen field, which is not me unfortunately being a theatre designer)

$200 is by far the most affordable for a bluray player but like you mentioned, if you can't play ALL the discs whats the point? I don't know if this player has any issues with any titles but you mentioned the reviews weren't the greatest. My advice is to wait until the profile 2.0 players become common (in the next few months) that way all the profile 1.0 and 1.1 players get cheaper.
Also, if you can wait until Boxing Day this coming holiday season, you will probably be able to get a bluray player for around $200 on a one day price or something. I'm waiting until then myself cause I'm not into wasting my money either.
You can also keep checking places like Ebay, Craigslist.com, Amazon.com for some great deals on used players as well. Good luck whatever you end up doing.
