The much anticipated dts 2.3 update is finally coming for the PS3 reported by bluray.com. It will be available for download 04/15/08. I hope to have my unit back by then from SONY.

Yeah...good luck with that Tony.
Now for a dumb question...
Because of what happened to you, I will take your advice and download the dts HD MA update to a flash drive. My question becomes, how in the heck do I do that?

First you create an update folder on your storage device and download the update into the folder, then when you goto update the PS3 through the update menu it will ask update from internet or from storage device, select storage device. Access the update folder and it will update. Give me a few seconds wolfen and I'll provide links to the update section and steps on how to update.

Sorry if I might say so Tony, but I think it would be nice to have Sony hold your return for a few extra days and have them install the new firmware at their repair facility.
I understand the idea to do the updates yourself via a USB drive, but if something is going to potentially go wrong, let them 'brick it' down in Laredo,TX, and fix it before they send it back to you

Status: Due to high demand, your unit is currently on backorder. The quoted turn-around-time for product exchange through our PlayStation(R) Exchange Center (PEC) is approximately 7-15 business days from the time we receive your unit, not including shipping and handling time. Due to the current backlog the turn-around-time may exceed the quoted 7-15 business days. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.
It seems that I have no choice in the matter Cipher.

Sorry about your extra wait there Tony. You must be going through some serious withdrawal symptoms.
As soon as this update is out, I can see myself going through my collection and figuring out which ones have DTS HD MA tracks on them so I can watch (err listen) to them all over again.
These updates are coming pretty fast and furious lately. I wonder what they'll be giving us next? Hmmm.... if my PS3 could empty our dishwasher and put everything away that would be really cool...

I wonder if theres a way to test out the DTS HD MA coming out of the PS3 which is software driven compared to a standalone player which has the hardware inside to do it. I'm sure it will sound good but I'm curious to know if you're getting the same sound quality from the PS3 as you would a standalone player.

CRAP
Tony, that news really sucks, but hopefully now you will get a P$3 that has the dts update pre-installed and tested.
I don't think that the high demand is due to any major electronic or mechanical failures that are suddenly turning up, although twice I had a physical failure of the BR drive, but other than that, everything else still worked(i.e- you could still play Demo games off of the hard Drive, surf the web, ect)
The current unit that they sent me has been cruising along just fine, but I have run across a very few instances that I either had to turn the TV or the P$3 off and back on again to fix an HDMI handshake problem that was causing audio dropouts, and a distorted picture.
Nothing bad enough to consider sending it back again unless the problem became chronic, and then the problem might be being caused by the TV set and not the P$3, so I would try it with another TV set first, to rule out what was causing the problem.
Sounds like Sony must have had major problems with their update servers that were dishing out the v2.20 firmware.
Well, as you unfortunately already know....
Whether USB or Internet update, I think I'll let the April 15 update slide past a bit and see if there are any widespread reports of problems before I even attempt the upgrade.
