Case of the Missing Trailers....

What on earth happened to Theatrical Trailers on new DVD releases? Most of the older DVDs in my collection came with Theatrical Trailers as part of the standard special features. However, over the past few years, I've noticed that fewer and fewer titles include them. They seem to be either on special two-disc sets, or not at all. (I always enjoyed having a trailer for the benefit of family or friends who may not have seen the films in my collection - to give them an idea whether or not they want to watch this or that DVD.)

Why have the studios become so stingy with DVD Trailers? (Maybe this is more of a rant than anything anyone can address, but I miss my trailers!)

Try a Disney Blu-ray disk. Pick one - doesn't matter which. They'll make you press <next> about 22 times to skip each theatrical trailer before getting to the main menu. I just wish they tucked these away under the special features menu somewhere instead.

I find the trailers at the beginning of movies SOOOO ANNOYING. I'm so glad they're doing away with them. Besides the space your saving on the discs but not having the trailers usually means you get better picture quality on the DVD.

The Disney discs are the worse by far. I almost wanna rip the disc and just copy the movie alone but I won't.

It's one of my biggest pet peeves. At one time, at the beginning of DVD, trailers were the only extras we were getting. Now, it's almost like pulling teeth to get the damn things included. I mean, how hard is it really to throw the freaking trailer-which the studio should bloody own-on the dang disc? The studios which claim "rights issues" (Paramount, with TV Trek and Generations especially) get on my nerves something bad. All trailers, too. TV spots, teaser trailers and theatrical trailers should be MANDATORY!!!

We ALL love trailers!!

Come on, who doesn't like them? Disney is doing us a favor, by reminding us which movies to see and what DVDs to look forward to...

(no sarcasm at all, really)

I believe you are referring to the trailers for the film for which you have the dvd of correct? not the preview trailers before the film but the ones used to promote the film itself? I find it interesting how few contain the trailers as well. Many times those trailers are the first memories I have of many films I grow to love. There is always the apple quicktime gallery of trailers, and if you have quicktime pro you can even save the HD trailers to your hard drive. I have a stock pile of about 250 trailers in glorious HD saved, which look great on my 20" widescreen iMac.

I agree with mvckalel... and love to see 2-4 trailers (especially in HD) of other movies, as long as the movie starts within 7-10 minutes. Often, I see a trailer for the first time in HD (especially Disney and Lionsgate discs), and make a note to add the movie to my rental queve.

As for SpEd extras, yes the trailers should be included - no excuse for leaving them off of the disc.

YES! Just the optional trailer for the actual movie on the dvd itself! Not mandatory, play-before-the-picture trailers OR those stupid preview trailers for new films that I probably hate anyway.

Like most people who have chimed in so far, I hate previews. They are just ads and are often a waste of space on the dvd. (Half the time the damn things aren't even related to the film I bought! And, anyway, I don't want to pay for an ad.)

No, what I was referring to is the optional Theatrical Trailer for the film I bought - just like Kudesignguy said. I like that kind of trailer, and I like being able to show them to other people to help them decide if they want to watch one particular DVD or another. I miss those and don't like that the studios aren't including them as much as they used to.

I agree, the trailers for the actual movie you're watching should be included for sure.

The previews for other movies or "coming soon" have to go.
