There might be another thread like this one (I think...)

I was reading at Variety the interview that was done to James Cameron in regards Avatar and 3D cinema...First, he is a director that has done great stories and highly successful movies (Titanic, which I don't like, Terminator(s)), so yes, he has a BIG say in all this.

But, the main thing is, why are some people so hyped about 3D? My last outing with 3D was Beowulf (and the one before I think was Spykids 3D, but it doesn't matter) and for me it wasn't that exciting (what was, was that trailer with the needle, AWESOME) for me the technology is still NOT here, it needs more development, it is not as enjoyable, it is still on the works (IMO).

Having read also, that now ALL the Pixar films after Wall-E will be released in 3D, I don't know what to think when a company as big and important as Disney is fully supporting this 'new' format. For once, our hopes are high for Toy Story 3(D)...but let's hope that it doesn't remind us of Jaws 3D...

Just to be clear, I'm not against the technology, I'm just against pushing the 3D technology without it being the most reliable (I'm feeling HD DVD vs. blu-ray here, no joke), or most enjoyable for most of us.

Is it something you are looking forward? Do you like and enjoy the 3D experience? Which movies you've like the most in 3D?

So, do you still have to wear some kind of special glasses to watch these things? You did with "Spy Kids 3-D." Did you with "Beowulf"?

I hate the 3-D glasses because I wear eyeglasses myself, and there is no way they fit over or under my own specs! Then, things still seem out of focus in the peripheral range. When 3-D is perfected without the need for special glasses of any kind, I think it might be a terrific gimmick.

I'm holding off until holodeck players get more affordable - under $150 and perhaps then the masses will buy it. Until then, just another niche format like laserdisk.

John, in the article from Variety, James Cameron did say that there were some Samsung (I think) monitors that could display 3D images and we could perceive them without special funky glasses, thanks to the framerate (and some other tech aspects, but mostly framerate), but that there were currently no players and/or discs for 3D.

And once again, I didn't enjoy the 3D aspect of Beowulf at all (well, I didn't enjoy the movie either, nothing close to the original story...the only thing worth was Jolie's golden... )...

Let's hope Cameron's Avatar is the new 'Terminator', since maybe, McG is going to ruin it for us...

Cine-tal Develops Image Processing Solution for Dolby

Today, Cine-tal Systems announced that they have developed a customized image processing technology for Dolby Laboratories for the purpose of 3D movie playback while in production of Dolby 3D Digital Cinema movies. The technology will be named Cine-tal Color Processing for Dolby 3D, and will employ this processing for playback of any 3D material not yet employed by DCP (Digital Cinema Package). According to David Gray, Vice President of Worldwide Production Services, Dolby Laboratories, “We are excited to be working with Cine-tal Systems on the Dolby 3D Color Processor which brings Dolby 3D to the post production facilities.” This technology is already being used in Hollywood studios and at Dolby Laboratories’ facility in Burbank. Dolby 3D Digital Cinema Technology works in conjunction with digital cinema projectors.

This may get me back into the Movie House again, but I don't see it working on my 56 incher.

Not a big fan of the whole 3-D thing myself either.
