Well folks, this game is single handedly making me get a PS3.

http://ps3.ign.com/objects/906/906076.html

Check out the video. Socom is probably my favorite game of all time and this new version looks incredible. For those of you that have played this game on the PS2 you will notice one of the most beloved maps, Crossroads, and how good it looks in the video.

Apparently the game is coming out around June so I I'll be getting a PS3 in mid May. If any of you guys get this game let me know so we can hook up online. Best game ever.

So yeah I'll be on the bluray wagon soon enough

Falcon, Socom is my all-time favorite PS2 game as well. STAY AWAY FROM COD4 and the PS3. There have been major PS3 failures over the last 2 months with updates and CoD4. You run a serious risk of having to return the PS3 back to SONY.

Bladerunner, Tony is the last person that would say something negatively against the PS3 so it has to be true. By the way I'm looking forward to Grand Tourismo on the PS3 and Ridge Racer!

Tony I tried COD4 on my bros PS3 and I was nautious after 30 minutes! Seriously I was sweating and ready to vomit :p I think it's the first person view that screws me up plus the graphics are so good which I'm sure is part of the reason.

Falcon
maybe you are sensitive to fps. it is not uncommen. but also maybe you didnt set the game up for yourself. you can set target sensitivity to however you want it. you know....to slow your ingame movement,so you don't get sick.

Falcon and Bladerunner here is a link to a thread that's well documented the problems between CoD4 and PS3 updates. I found it when I was looking for the repair time for my PS3. If you read some of the post in the thread you'll find a great deal of PS3 failures were reported from owners that when they were playing the game their PS3 all of a sudden stop working after updating to v2.17 and v2.2. There is a conflict between EA and SONY as to whom is at fault.

I was just checking craigslist and I see some PS3's going for $350 but they're used and who knows if they're stolen or not.

I'm not forking out that kind of money unless I have a receipt and guaranteed warranty. You just never know whats going to happen and that's a lot of cash.

I hope to catch some kind of sale or something but I doubt there will be one anytime soon.

I didnt know anything about that. i'm not an online gamer. could it have been the updates themselves, cause i have been reading on here about not updating directly from the source but to use portable storage media.like i said i'm a solo gamer so i'm confused about the topic at hand and wont say anything but that i have not personally had any problems. also......home theater magazine has a very good article about PS3 in this months issue that i rec. anybody interested to check out.(sorry about the one finger typing)

bladerunner1, since I love the PS3 and my friends here at DVDTown, every important piece of info that will make a more enjoyable marriage between owner and machine I will pass along. For me to only point out the positives and none of the negatives of owning the PS3 would not be fair to anyone. I just hope that any info I post helps any of my friends here at DVDTown avoid any possible troubles and take advantage of the benefits of such a wonderful machine the PS3 is.

Thats a shame about COD4 I have it on 360 and it has more "holy shit" moments than any game I can remember, best game of last year hands down. It a shame ps3 doesn't have more exclusive stellar games. There are some decent ones like Uncharted and Resistance but not console movers. Hopefully that will change this year.

Great mission statement. I hope you don't get fired like Jerry did...

Mine is to pass on personal information. And to point "friends" in positive directions as well. I may joke around on here, but I will never pass along bogus information. I hope I don't get fired like Jerry did....

X-box may be a great game console. But Playstation will catch up. Plus it plays high definition movies...

I dunno about that... COD4 was great and all but I think Mass Effect was much better.

I had Resistance and could'nt play it because of FPS sickness, but I watched my 15 yr old son beat the game in 2 days, but what about Killzone 2? I really would like to play this game when it comes out.

Mass Effect was an absolute blast, I didn't think Bioware could top KOTOR but they did, I can't wait to transfer my save files over to Mass Effect 2.

Mass Effect was great, got just a little bit repetitive. It wasn't KOTOR in story but was better in gameplay. Im bettin ME2 will be incredible since it sets up so well for a sequel.

I also would like to play HELLGATE:LONDON if it were to come out for the PS3.

I want Bioshock. Actually there are quite a few 360 games I wouldnt mind having. If the PS3 wasnt so absorbed with the bluray thing,we would probably have alot of great games. But movies are a far bigger cash cow for sony. They turned there back on the game community and it bit them in the ass.

I actually picked up the BioShock CE... Only played the first couple of levels.. I don't know why I haven't played anymore.

If you want racing games that has realism "Forza Motorsport 2" for XBOX 360 is the best by far. I own Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and it just doesn't get near FM2. Perhaps the full game of GT5 will when it arrives in 2009.

Ratchet & Clank is a great platform game just don't play it on a 120" screen with a projector, it will make you dizzy

For FPS, why wait, really great titles are available now. Call of Duty 4, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Halo 3 and the upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company.

KOTOR = Knights of the Old Republic?

Henning I saw a video of the Forza game and it does look amazing but I can't afford TWO gaming systems as I still have to get a new receiver with Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD. So Grand Tourismo it will have to be or Ridge Race which I have enjoyed in the past.

Have you guys seen the previews for Star Wars: Force Unleashed? That game looks like LOADS of fun and I'll be picking that up for sure also. I'm sure it will be a treat in audio and video.

Here's a link to a preview video.

http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000631.html

EDIT: Actually here's the full video...

http://www.gametrailers.com/gametrailerstv_player.php?ep=13&sd=1&ch=1

The video is 21 minutes long but it has some great footage and info plus clips from Resistance 2, Bourne Conspiracy, Don King Presents: Prize Fighter, TNA Impact, Final Fantasy, Soul Calibur IV which has Yoda and Darth Vader in it, plus other clips.

I wish man, I gotta wait til May though cause that's when I get my tax return. I really should get a new receiver too cause it's gonna be a cabling nightmare since the one I have now doesn't have HDMI.

The stress of loving home theatres I tell ya.

OH yeah...The Force Unleashed is going to be great. There is quite a media blitz coming with that game too. Kinda like Shadows of the Empire...back in the day.(i know that game sucked).

Here is a quote from the new issue of Home Theater magazine(they see alot of bluray players...)

"Some enthusiasts balk at putting a game console in their home theater system. I pity them the sacrifices they'll have to make to stick to that. For those with hdmi switching, the ps3 involves far fewer compromises compared with standalones, most of which are "way back machines" in comparison. Simply put, the ps3 costs less and does more, and does it better.

The ps3 remains my first choice in a Blu-ray disc player, and by a wider margin than ever, more than a year after it's introduction. Not bad for a Blu-ray player whose day job is being a game console."

I wonder why Home Media magazine said the picture quality was not as good on the PS3 vs standalones.

I wish someone would do a comparison with say the Panasonic BD30 on a proper system so we know for sure. The thing is I would imagine it would be hard to tell a big difference because it's high definition movies were talking about so it's hard for it to look bad.

I remember people telling me the PS2 was a really good DVD player but it wasn't. Not saying the same thing is happening with the PS3 and the bluray drive but it's one of the reasons I was being cautious.
