was wondering if theres movies i should be looking to buy up before they become harder to find.
I wasn't interested in the jack ryan collection and Im kicking myself over that.
taking lives is now going for over $200 on ebay but that was going to be hard to come by in the first place.

any movies that may have had a limited press and may be harder to get as time goes on?
maybe the last few movies that came out?
American Gangster
I am Legend

I've heard someone say u-571 but that seems to be easy to get.

I got U571 as a freebie with my A2 last year, so i doubt that one is hard to come by. Taking Lives... The one with Angie Jolie? Going for 200 bucks? Are you serious? Why would anyboby want to pay that for THAT?

I guess taking lives got a limited print and people got ahold of them.
I just want to know what movies I really haven't come across much online.
like I said:
taking Lives **going for hundreds**
Jack Ryan Collection **going for hundreds**
Bee Movie **might have leaked**
Nutty Professor hddvd/dvd combo **I've only come across it a few times usually $30+**
LARA CROFT TOMB RAIDER: THE CRADLE OF LIFE [GERMAN HD DVD RELEASE] **is out of print and getting hard to find**
EQUILIBRIUM [JAPANESE HD DVD RELEASE] **goes for $80 on ebay**
Twister if it gets a release

theres other imports that are starting to go out of stock and have been out of print
I'm contemplating a few before they're hard to find but not sure if i want to spend the money on the imports just to collect or not.

Wow. That is just insane considering that ALL of these titles will be on Blu-Ray. I guess some people are just born dumb. I have Hd-dvd and have accepted it's death. I suggest other people do the same and stop wasting their money. These things are not going to be collectors items. Is Divx a collectors item? Buying Hd-dvd for that pupose is silly. It's Blu-ray or No way. Thats the fact.

Band of Brothers on HD DVD is super expensive too. Xploitedcinema was sold out of it for a while and then they got it back again. Not sure if they still have it.

You pretty much got the list covered I think. Like Bladerunner said, these movies will (hopefully) be available on bluray at some point so why pay so much for them now? Just wait.

Buy the other HD DVD's that are super cheap in the meantime as those will be more expensive when they come out on bluray.

Xploitedcinema.com still has stock on Band Of Brothers...only the complete set though...no more single issues available.

Be careful whom you call "dumb", bladerunner1. Just because a certain person, or group of people, don't see things the way you do, does not make them dumb.

Divx isn't a collectable because it was a ludicrous idea in the first place. However, "Laserdisc", which came out in the early to mid 80's, IS a collectable, and is still collected today.

HDDVD may have lost the war, but it does not mean that it won't be a collectable, nor does it make the purchase of the format a "waste of money" to the purchaser. And just because a not so popular movie is going for insane prices on ebay on HDDVD, doesn't mean that people are "born dumb" either. It's simple supply and demand laws.

Blade...I enjoy my HD DVD collection. I make full use of my many titles...some 85 films right now. I am exploiting the firesales around the world to expand my collection, where it makes sense.

I have titles from North America, Germany, England, Holland, France, Spain, Italy and Japan...with more on the way...even titles that will now never see the ligh of day as a HD DVD release in North America...Enemy at the Gates for one...The Jackall or another...Crank...Reservoir Dogs and so on and so on...

I accept the fact that I invested in the loosing format...no big deal...I have a fantastic high definition source in my HD DVD setup, far superior to that of over compressed cable television or satellite television.

I also have the ability to play Blu-ray, so I can enjoy renting something from the local Rogers or Block Buster or Zip.ca on that format as well...I am future proof...

But I am at heart, a collector. I collect things that I enjoy. My collection of record albums may mean nothing to many people these days...but, I enjoy going through the joy of selecting, cleaning and sitting back and enjoying a mint Japanese pressing of Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon...or an original side from Count Basie. I collect old scientific equipment...do you approve of this? Or how about my stamp collection?

The same now hold true for my HD DVD collection. I enjoy the format. It was relatively inexpensive to get into and there are a plethora of titles available for those who choose to look.

The purpose of a collection isn't to grow it's value...it's value lies in what it means to you and the joy you get from it. Some may agree and some will think you have a turnip for a brain for collecting whatever it is you are collecting.

You are obviously of a different mind set...which is completely cool with me...if we all thought the same way, this planet would be furkin boring.

I respect your opinion...and will defend your right to your opinion...however, I shall agree to disagree with you on this one.

Cheers...

I am a collector also.

What are we collecting here? The packaging? The disc? If it's the packaging, take the insert when it is released on Blu-ray,and stick it in a RED case. If it is the disc,Hd-dvd is dead,Blu-ray is the same...so why bother? I didnt say anything about people buying "firesale" hd-dvd discs for I have bought a few of those myself. But it is still beyond my comprehension why anybody would spend two hundred dollars on "Taking Lives". That is just poor spending in MY opinion.

And your not dumb.

So here is the kicker Bladerunner1...as a fan of the Jack Ryan novels and the movies they spawned, except perhaps "The Sum of All Fears"...having owned the SD DVD version of the original three movies since it was released.

Am I a nutbar for contemplating spending upwards of $200 for this set on HD DVD?

I have rented parts of this set on HD DVD and will not watch the movies of my SD DVD set any longer...the picture quality and the softness drive me over the edge now.

A set that Paramount did a screw job on me twice for on HD DVD? Am I to wait for them to put their collective Blu-ray act together and wait for this release in say a year or two, if ever?

I think not.

I have a decent job and I live on my own...no wife to interfere with my home theater projects

So the truth is, I will buy this Jack Ryan set on HD DVD, given the opportunity as I will enjoy it for many years to come )

There is a huge difference between "Jack Ryan" and "Taking Lives"... Yeah,I can see this set of movies being a "collectors item" because the movies are well regarded. If the Star Wars trilogy were on hd-dvd, I would probably pay ALOT of money for it because wellll thats MY thing and I would be too impatient to wait for the Blu-Ray. But I would not buy this as an investment. If you have the cash and you want this set. GET IT. I was just trying to remind people that the movies they seek will eventually be on Blu-Ray,and not to go all crazy on these so called "rare" titles.

What bladerunner says is true, this will be available later on blu-ray, with the exact same A/V quality...now if you are buying it because it's going to be a collector's item, then you are right too. However, I don't think I've been so desperate for a movie that I've spent more than I should've...

Sorry if I disagree with you...but as a collector, if someone really wants something, be it a HD DVD that you find worthless or a priceless Ming Dynasty vase you see in a yard sale...you will find a way to get it.

You and I are not in a position to tell someone that what they covet is stoopid...

I just paid 15 bucks for a ultra cool Boba Fett action figure. Is that stupid too?
