Quite a hypocritical move for a company to shove blu-ray format DOWN EVERYBODY'S THROAT... only to do a QUICK 180, and support a VERY POTENTIAL hi-def killer: DIGITAL DOWNLOAD.

The Smithsonian called: They're asking Sony if they want their blu ray paperweight next to the T-Rex skeleton, or Life-sized diorama, of a DO-DO bird exhibit.

Only one reason why they would support digital download: People CANNOT AFFORD Blu-ray... the casual viewers that make up OVER 90 percent of the buyers.

watever guys lol
talk down that list... making even more of a joke of yourselves when all those games (the ones out) have been rated with 86 or above on most sites, and early previews of the other games expected to be even better. Just because the games aren't outselling a console with 7 million more units in the wild doesn't mean it's a bad system.
Lol@ "GTP is good but hasn't sold near pgr"
It has only been out for a week in the US! and get this, it is already on a higher sales slope than those other two.... and it's a freaking demo!!!!
Yaknow what company created time crisis? the guys who made goldeneye. Ya know what happened when ms bought rare (that same company)? The lead devs left! Now comes TC4 from their camp, incredible!
And yes I could have made a better list, that was just off the top of my head. Anyhow, it isn't like the game sales matter anyhow. PS3 is now on top of 360 for 18 weeks, the game sales will come with more consoles sold. spin this however you like

You guys sound like you don't know much about video games:
Quote:
rainbow six 2 sold eight times higher on the 360.
You don't say! A shooter selling a lot of copies on teh 360! rediculous, i would believe you if all the systems other top sellers weren't also shooters.
Quote:
Time Crisis? Uh, no, I dont think so.

sorry i just threw that in there cuz it sold well and had great reviews.
Quote:
The only things on that list that have any chance are MGS and Haze
any chance of what exactly? selling games?
Quote:
Killzone was a medicore shooter on the PS2 that was gonna "kill Halo"....maybe it did with laughter. Pretty pictures dont make a good game.

yeah killzone wasn't as good as halo. Killzone 2 will have an easier time dealing with halo 3.
Quote:
Sony has some exclusives coming, but only MGS4 will sell the system, and it isn't Halo.
you might be right, but as of now, this year's lineup has a lot of people thinkin' otherwise.
Quote:
Tekken 6 will probably be on 360 since Namco isi n good relations with MS now

you mean sony? and what makes you think that? their release of time crisis exclusively for ps3?
don't get me wrong, i think you are all very intelligent people, but i game, a lot. i know i'm a bit of a nerd, but it's good stress relief from work school and g/f/wife. I am upto the minute on games news, and despite Gears of War coming out on 360 this year, I'm sure the 8-10 exclusive (AAA expected) titles coming out this year can cope.
mgs4,killzone2,afrika,ff13,littlebigplanet,haze,l.a.noire,8 days, heavy rain,tekken6, Gran turismo 5, the getaway3. i'm buying 7 of them btw. not enough cash flow.

EDIT: GT already sold 1.2 million copies worldwide, for the record. And it's a demo

Gee... how about you let us know whenever you find it possible that a digital download will ever rival the 1080p/24 Blu-ray Hi-Def quality we have now!! (oh, and don't forget Dolby TrueHD, DTS-MasterAudio, and Uncompressed PCM audio).

And is 1080p/24 even possible on a download/streaming tech system? (and what about the compression and stability from your local cable/satellite company?)

Digital Downloads to be a possible "hi-def killer" over 1080p/24 Blu-ray - maybe in your dreams! Or maybe in a few decades... ?

The best possible HD content is Blu-ray 1080p/24... ANYTHING LESS (like Digital Downloads) is not at all appealing to me and my plasma. Once you get the best quality (Blu-ray), you don't want to settle for less.

WHO CARES! The MAJORITY of the population CANNOT AFFORD HI-DEF PLAYER, HI-DEF TV, DTS RECEIVER, NOR CERTIFIED SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM! Who cares if blu-ray is superior... NO ONE CAN AFFORD IT. Even Sony's STUPIDITY is BITING THEM IN THE @$$, which is why they're supporting digital downloads AS A BACKUP... since EVEN SONY DOES NOT KNOW THE FUTURE OF BLU RAY!

Fanboys.... always living inside a COCOON.

The PS3 has already earned it's reputation. We all know that the public hangs onto first impressions. The people I know with PS3s bought them pretty much to be able to watch movies. The general public now thinks of the PS3 as a Blu-ray player first and foremost. That's probably going to be the reputation it has for it's lifespan. Now about Blu-ray players, can we please get a decent one for less than $500??? I mean, come on! How long have these things been on the market now? No wonder their penetration sucks. I want to buy one but am not going to shell out an obnoxious amount for one.

tylerdurden,

How do you propose one enjoys a HD downloaded movie. On a expensive Apple TV box or a $1000 HT/PC?

I'm going to say this. Alot of people bought into HDDVD when the players cost $500+ American dollars and Blu ray players were near $1000. They made the argument that BD standalone players cost too much...........COOL. The PS3 was $600 dollars........they still said it cost too much. OK. SONY dropped the price to $400, still to high, yet, some NOT ALL, of the same ones that cried Blu=too expensive HDDVD supporters have 5 and 6 HDDVD players.

This is how you know people who hate Blu ray are scared to see it prosper. The ones who argue that SD/DVD will always be King or HD downloading is the future. Well as far as DVD vs Blu-ray goes because of decline in DVD sales, Warner has decided to conduct a little expiriment. They are releasing Be Kind Rewind to Blu ray first with the DVD release 1 week later. My bet is if this trend continues with the decline of DVD sales we could possible see the beginning of the end for DVD.

If you read my post carefully I never said that this would happen overnight.

Beautiful Katamari was originally a PS3 exclusive and then it became an Xbox 360 exclusive, Pac Man CE is also exclusive to Xbox Live. I'd say Namco is in good relations with MS now. If they are smart they will release Tekken 6 on Xbox 360. Epic has already confirmed that UT3 will be better on 360. It damn well be better because it sold poorly on PS3.

Thanks for your confession.

However, for example, I don't see expensive car companies worrying about their 'survivalbililty' (Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Mercedes Benz etc). But... Blu-ray is NOWHERE as expensive (as a percentage) in home video costs, as luxury cars are to ordinary cars.

In my opinion, if you really cannot afford a Blu-ray player, and purchase a few discs, and also RENT for a low monthly fee, then you probably could not afford DVD either. (yet, somehow I think you have a DVD player, and own some discs, yes?). Well, Blu-ray prices are going to come down within the next year (see previous announcements), and most should be able to adopt... if they want to.

Apparently, your FANBOY RANT on Blu Ray stems from being a Narrow-minded squid. So let me teach you a thing or two about economics: In order to take advantage of Blu Ray, you HAVE TO SPEND $400 for the player, at least $1400 FOR A DECENT-SIZED 1080p HDTV screen (since owning anything less than 1080p IS DOWNRIGHT STUPID), at least $400 for a good A/V receiver to take advantage of the Blu-ray featured audio formats, and AT LEAST ANOTHER $700-$1000 for a good SIX-SPEAKER-PLUS-SUBWOOFER speaker system, to accomodate that expensive A/V receiver.

The whole BLU-RAY SETUP adds up a pretty penny that amounts to AT LEAST THREE GRAND. You, and all the rest of the HI-DEF FANBOY SHEEPS, are so FOCUSED on how great Blu-ray is... that NONE OF YOU ever accounted for the FACT THAT BLU RAY HI-DEF ONLY WORKS, with THE REST OF THE COMPONENTS INCLUDED!

That $400 Blu-ray player is a SMOKESCREEN for further expense ON WHAT THE MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION CANNOT, AND WILL NOT AFFORD! Your analogy of luxury automobiles over the hi-def player is so terribly flawed, that you're INCAPABLE OF THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX.

Here's another ECONOMIC LESSON FOR YOU (and all of you FANBOY SHEEPS): Economic analysts predicting that IT WOULD TAKE AT LEAST 2010 to fix the mortgage subprime fiasco, to disappear. After that, WORLDWIDE ECONOMY WILL STILL SUFFER THE GASOLINE CHOKEHOLD. The country is already showing $4/gallon NOW, and expected to hit $5 this summer. In addition, the BIODIESEL crusade has amplified the rising cost of ANYTHING AGRICULTURE, including dairy products. It would take AT LEAST A DECADE to see a sign of A VALID FUEL ALTERNATIVE to gasoline, and by that time... ANOTHER MEDIA FORMAT would've easily REPLACED DVD (which WILL OUTLAST Blu-ray). There is no quick solution to any of these crisis & you FANBOYS think the MAJORITY (whose already taking SERIOUS HITS at the pump & grocery lines) will cling to Blu-Ray, as the next BIG THING (in media format)?

THAT'S A JOKE.
No one cares for Blu-ray since it DEMANDS FURTHER HARDWARE EXPENSES that would amount to THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. Unfortunately, you (and the other hi-def FANBOY SHEEPS on this site) are TOO NARROW-MINDED to see the whole REALISTIC PICTURE, which does not require 1080p to see THE REAL MESSAGE.
