Has anyone heard a date on a release date for this great 80's movie? I've found it on Ebay, but it's an import and I'm not sure if it will play on my dvd player.

It depends. Check the back of your DVD player. If a "1" is displayed, then your DVD player can only play discs designated as "Region 1", that is discs coded for the United States and Canada. I checked out the "Howard the Duck" listings on eBay and I see your issue since the region code is not listed. Hopefully it will be a region 0 disc, which means you can play it with no problem since it doesn't have any region coding. But if it's a region 2,3,4,5 and beyond, you're out of luck.
As for a Howard the Duck release in the U.S., we'll see. I don't see anything for it yet, but in the DVD market, anything can happen.

You have to watch the items on ebay, because when they say import what they are actually doing is burning a dvd from the vhs version. That's why they do not have a region code.
I know someone who bought Blue Chips on ebay and it said it was an import, but was the VHS version burnt on DVD.

Never buy on eBay!!!! they always rip me of. Even though they 99.9% positive feedback. They actually find a way to hack into that and change it. My friend has done it! I KNOW! You can usually find cheap dvd prices on Amazon, there are independent sellers there.

no, it's live action. One of the best movies from Lucas. Many don't like it, but I'm one of the those cult classic fans. I enjoy the off brand, B rate movies.

I saw this film as a kid, and liked it.... (as a kid). If you try and watch this film as an adult, I think you'll find it will be difficult to keep your attention on it. It's a kids film only in my opinion. It does have some adult situations, but this is why it's got an MPAA rating of "PG". About the only redeeming qualiity of this film was marginal humor, and a young "Lea Thompson" in a "Teddy".

Hey Onijay, remember that link I posted a while back? - EXTERNAL LINK -
Bookmark it.
Howard is an interesting concept, but what made the comic great was the idea of having a real-life Donald Duck that smoked, drank, swore, and was incredibly vulgar. The movie just couldn't pull the character off, it looked simply silly and the story matched.

The "Howard the Duck" listing on ebay is a VHS rip. They are pretty good rips never the less, as they come with decent covers and are on decent dvd's. Its up to yourself whether you really want the film and are willing to settle for the lesser quality or whether you want to wait and see if the movie is going to be released. However it does not matter what region of dvd player you have as these dvd's will not be region encoded.
Personally i feel better owning the original so i actually bought the vhs and then did the rip to dvd myself solely so that i could preserve the VHS. I did the same with quite a few movies... Howard the Duck, Monster Squad, Deadly Friend etc. all of which are not out on DVD at the moment but are absolute classics from the 80's that i hope to keep forever.
Sorry to butt in btw i am a newbie :P

San Jose Shark,
Do you have full season tickets or a 10 game plan? My dad and I have the latter.
Can't wait for hockey to start. I remember the cow palace days. We had tickets for the Spiders too but they went belly up. I love Hockey too much to get mad at the players. GO SHARKS!!!
I saw Howard the Duck many moons ago and liked it. I'm not sure how it would be now that I am older. It will definitely be released it's just a matter of when.

To DVDemon, yes i do havbe season tickets, ever since the first season 91-92 and i miss the Cow Palace still, it was awesome for hockey and every seat was a good seat. They were horrible back then but the fans didnt have high expectations so it was just fun, very loud, FALLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON, and of course the greatest enforcer of all time LINK GAETZ! i miss the smokey concourse, the pigeons that lived inside it, i miss those days so much but i still wear my Falloon jersey to every game. I'm with you man I CANT WAIT FOR HOCKEY!!! and the shaks will be good this year, they have one of the fasest youngest teams in the NHL and they are one of the best drafting teams since 96. Do you live in the bay area? if so will you be going to the rookie tournament between the sharks, ducks, kings and coyotes prospects at logitech ice in San Jose? its going to be fun and i will be breaking bottles over Ducks fans heads who made the trip up here ;)

Yeah American football is for pansies real football aint so bad, all you got are shin guards. If you want all out crazy go for Australian rules footy, now thats nuts!
Howard the Duck was a complete flop and quite rightly so to be honest. The only reason i have it and want it in DVD is for complete nostalgia. Same reason i bought robot jox (shudder).

Ah but it was! When William Shatner is singing (well, he was talking more than singing) the opening song ("My Way") when he got to the part where the song lyrics say: "Regrets... I've had a few" Will turns to the audience and sorta whispers "Anyone seen Howard the Duck?" Audience laughs, cheers and appluads soon after.
And during the clipshow where they document Lucas' achievement in special effects they have a brief scene of Howard doing the concert on stage. Cut to George Lucas with a coy smile and deeply embarassed.

I liked HTD when I first saw it years ago. I thought it was funny, cute and full of cheesy fluff, but over time I've found it to get worse with age. If memory serves me, the film was a complete box office failure when it was released in the theatre and a complete embracement to Lucas. Must be true because it was never mentioned at Lucas's AFI lifetime achievement award ceremony this year.

San Jose Shark,
I do live in the bay area (east bay). I'm not going to the rookie tournament. It sounds good though. I remember Link Gaetz. He was worth the price of admission alone. It's gonna be fun to watch hockey again. I definitely miss it. I have a Korolyuk jersey. I like him because he has so much energy and is fun to watch. Unfortunately he changed his number and won't even be playing this year but oh well. I'm still gonna wear it. I hope he comes back next year. If you see a fan with a Korolyuk #15 jersey... that's me. Maybe I'll see you there! Enjoy the season!
