Forget the what ifs??
Come on, what if blu-ray was reliable? What if blu-ray was cheap?

"What if the x-box 360 had come with a hd-dvd drive built in?"
Then the 360 would have been priced at or around $600 like the PS3 and also like the PS3 at launch, dead in the water. The price simply would have been too high for the major consumer adoption that the 360 enjoys today. Personally I prefure that the 360's HD DVD drive was available as an add-on and not forced onto people like the Blu-Ray drive in the PS3. It allows for what Sony has been trying to remove. A choice.

And for those who love the fact that the PS3 has built-in blu-ray, why is the Wii so successful even when it plays no HD media, and it boasts not even HD picture quality?
Please people, stop whinning, there are better threads to post to...

The Wii is popular because it gets old people out of there beds in nursing homes. And kids like it. So you just go ahead and shake your "THANG" around. And I will continue to play "real" games.
Oh, and I personally feel that the lack of the hd-dvd drive in the xbox, is holding the ps3 back! Think about it before you respond...DVD-BLURAY...Hmmmm

If Jo Blo can go buy a DVD upconverter that can do 80% of the quality of Blu-Ray/HD DVD for $80 then why would he spend $320 more for that last 20%??
All this "near HD quality" talk is silly. Are you guys really looking at the picture quality difference and thinking it's close? I use an XA2 to upconvert to 1080p, and yes it's an improvement over a standard DVD player, but there's absolutely no comparison between the XA2 upconversion and the same title on Blu-ray or HD-DVD. I respect the opinion that SD-DVD is "good enough" for someone, as everyone has different priorities on how they spend their cash, but to say that it's actually almost the same quality is very surprising to me.
deadmeat, your thread title is nonsense. The sales include all of those $70-$90 upconverting DVD players. Do you really think that most people buying these machines are worried about higher audiovisual quality? Except for those that are buying more expensive scalers/upconverters/HD-DVD players, these are very different target groups buying these machines. I know you're desperate to keep pushing the upconversion option, but let's be realistic.

The slight difference between a decent upconverter and Blu-Ray
You require a new TV. Or new glasses.
