Listen, I admit I am a video junkie.
The point is, if you are content with living with the illusion of having a "near" high def experience with your upconverted SD DVD, who am I to rain on your parade...you go forth and enjoy to your hearts delete )
I have run my SD DVD copy of a number of movies through my Samsung BD-UP5000 and my Toshiba HD-A3 as well as a borrowed Toshiba HD-X2A...the truth is, while these machines do a fairly decent job of making the SD DVD picture more watchable, I will always grab my HD DVD or Blu-ray copy first, if I have the option or wait for the movie I want to watch
As I said before, you cannot create something from nothing...a computer can only guess...if you are happy with a guess instead of a real high def source, then so be it...
Cheers all...

Got any stats on HD downloads to date?
Care to answer my previous question?

deadmeat, your thread title is nonsense. The sales include all of those $70-$90 upconverting DVD players. Do you really think that most people buying these machines are worried about higher audiovisual quality? Except for those that are buying more expensive scalers/upconverters/HD-DVD players, these are very different target groups buying these machines. I know you're desperate to keep pushing the upconversion option, but let's be realistic.

Gosh Hendrix, now CNET needs to publish articles that state high-definition is more detailed than standard definition? Wow, consumers must be really confused out there.

Good one^
And here's a recent (brief) comment, from another website -
"The reality is that if Toshiba really thought that DVD could look as good as HD Media they would never have bothered with HD DVD in the first place. You can’t get something for nothing. No amount of special sauce can make road kill as good as Sirloin. Sure there are people that will think that upconverted SD is good enough - just like there are people that think that McDonalds is good enough. But there will always be a difference.
For now the SD upconversion is the cheaper alternative - there will be a time when that is no longer the case. Upconverted SD is not the future. I am sure that once Toshiba gets over their pride we will see Blu-ray players with the Toshiba name. After all they got over being on the wrong side of the VHS-Beta war, as did Sony."

HD DVD Death Hasn’t Helped Blu-ray
http://www.electronichouse.com/article/hd_dvd_death_hasnt_helped_blu_ray/
Players and Movies are way too expensive and too complicated for the avg. consumer to understand and will be for long some time, the avg. Joe is just way too cheap to care to make the change.
And a good up converter does do a good job, not that i don't prefer HD or Blu better.

Did make a good point...
