Hey there Tony... well, still, North America has some of the lowest gasoline prices, compared to Europe - VIEW PRICES (scroll down to the latest comparison date, in April).
You would think that electric cars could be produced at a lower price, seeing how they've got rechargeable batteries now that can get about 200+ miles a day on a single (nightly) charge. Still, from what I heard recently, to date the US government has prohibited about 85% of the outer shelf as "off limits" for oil drilling/production. Which forces our increased dependence on foreign oil supplies. Which is being acquired from competing countries needing more too, such as China and India. Supply and Demand, and the consequences.
Here's an idea... why doesn't the USA government start it's own large oil company, as well as build new gasoline refineries, since politicians keep blaming each other over 'high energy prices', and then compete against the world markets and other producers.

I cannot believe I am jumping back into this...
Yes, a true scaler will produce some very good results...BUT only if you are prepared to spend big $$$ on a system, yes, I said system...something from the likes of Runco or Faroudja. It can look really, really good...but, it is not a true HD picture...
These pissant so-called upconverting SD-DVD players...well, I think you can tell what I think of their abilities. This system may work for some people...congrats to them for being so accepting...I am not for it is not a true HD picture...
But, at the end of the day, the only was to get the resolution of a HD signal is to use a true HD source...pixel interpolation and line doubles and deinterlacers can only take you so far...

Upconverting players do not make a regular DVD look like a good high-def BD or HD DVD. They simply don't. But they do make regular DVDs look better.
However, for the average guy who doesn't have an HD television (or does have an HD television but no interest in investing in a high-def player and whole lot of expensive HD discs), the idea of a cheap way to improve what he's already got makes sense.
