since consumers who plan to spend more on entertainment this year are primarily focused on buying new devices like game consoles and the new HD/Blu ray players rather than buying standard content like movie DVDs or music CDs.

DVD is starting to die. Music downloads have already hurt the CD business. Just proves my point about Warner's little expiriment.

If consumer spending is on it's way down I hope Onkyo, Yamaha, Sony, etc sees this and lowers their prices. I need to get a new receiver and a PS3.

No. Actually it's ALIVE & WELL.

Which is why the Music Industry has NOW EMBRACED music download, as their business.

You mean that Warner title THAT NO CARED TO SEE IN THEATERS THIS YEAR? Why would they spend blu-ray price now, for the same stinker? You didn't prove a thing.

...And according to Nielsen VideoScan sales data, the nascent Blu-ray Disc saved the day for the sellthrough business, with DVD unit sales in the first quarter down 1.2% from the first quarter of 2007 but Blu-ray Disc sales up a whopping 351%.

LOL...how true...a studio releases a bomb in the theaters and they think they can recoup their costs by suckering people into renting, or worse, buying that piece of tripe with a slick marketing campaign...buyer beware

Bluray is not THAT bad. It's a lot better then it was when it first came out. They just have to bring down the cost of the players.

That's they're only issue in my opinion. Once players drop in price, even to $299 ($199 would be ideal) you'll see a big jump in sales. It's just a matter of time.

Blu Ray is doing what I hate most. Keep bringing their crappy players out in stages of improvement to make more money off of people. Why don't they get ther Sh_ _ together and finish the format, lower the price to $150-$200 and then I'll buy one. Until then they are idiots.

That's why I think Warner is a bastard child of Sony for picking them just for some quick cash that might make them like 3 more movies.

Agreed Wolf. They pulled this similar tactic when DVD came out. For the longest time, they didn't support writable DVD's. In Blu-Ray's market, they had't put the finsihing touches on the format before it release.

Well, I guess the title of this thread says it all, now doesn't it...

Given the choice between spending hundreds of hard earned dollars on a new format or saving those moneys for the tough times that are before us...decisions...decisions...I am betting that that new Blu-ray player will take a back seat to basic living costs.

Sorry to be glum about this people, but unless the world does a complete 180 degree spin, we are heading into a really interesting next 2-3 years, economically speaking, that is...

I'm busy stocking up 1'000's of cans of Spam and Twinkies in my bomb shelter, along with ammo, guns, and virgins that will be useful when the world will need repopulating. But I have been also buying a few Blu-ray disks here and there to keep us entertained in the shelter when society as we know it collapses.

Hey there Jason... I think tylerdurden is referring to the following 'Warner stinker' coming to Blu-ray...

Hendrix,

I kinda figured it was that one. Ya know, the "stinker" which made $93 million domestically and another $162 million in foreign cinemas on a budget of $105 million. Creatively, yes a stinker. Financially, a winner.

Jason, wants to see 10,000 A.D. The Movie

Actually tylerdurden was probably refering to Be kind Rewind. I haven't seen it but I heard it was a stinker and that it had low box office results.
