The killer HD channel is ESPNHD. Even if you don't like sports. But Club1080 is nice. If you get an HD player get Planet Earth. You'll cry like a new born wanting a pamper change.

as he has demonstrated in various threads, skyhawk is just a rude chode.
i think 90% of this site's visitors would agree that john is one of the nicest and calmest guys around, but skyhawk has managed to attack (and piss off) john repeatedly.
why would john and i NOT recommend an hd dvd player to tim? they're all being sold at very low prices, often cheaper than upconverting sd dvds players. therefore, tim can get an a2 or a3 at wal-mart for $75 instead of a samsung upconverter for $100. plus, some combo discs are actually cheaper than their sd-dvd-only counterparts (example: "bourne 3", "the kingdom", "elizabeth: the golden age", "michael clayton", etc.), so if tim wanted to buy some movies that happen to be combo discs, then he'd be saving money going that route.
skyhawk, if you're going to argue for the sake of arguing, then take your truck elsewhere. we are trying to help tim ease into the high-def world, and you're just being a jerk.

Just to add my opinion, I have an XBOX 360 w/HD DVD addon AND a Toshiba A3, and they both upconvert waaaaay better than the 40GB PS3 I own.
EDIT: I'm using VGA cables with the XBOX 360 addon.

well, as i said, i would have picked an HD DVD player up if one were in stock. I still might get one if I happen to see one for sale anywhere. Sure, it would be nice to pick up some cheap HD DVDs then, but what worries me is if manufatures would stop making players in the future to stop supporting it (combo players for example). So then, say my HD DVD player goes out, nobody's making anything to support them, then I have a whole library of HD DVDs I can't play. Therefore, I'm only interested in a player that upconverts.
I does get to me, though, when we have issues between each other when we are such a small group of gents that should just get along. Granted, nothing wrong with constructive, heated debate, but it gets silly when we result to insults and less maturity. I know what you're thinking, the pot is calling the kettle black! And you're right -- I'm just as guilty in bickering back and forth and acting like an ass, and I admit I'm wrong for it. However, many of us here have done the same. Perhaps it's just human nature to stir the pot with others, but the long road to wisdom is filled with many mistakes, and the key to gaining wisdom is having the power to admit them.
Life it too short guys, learn to get along guys.

We should set up a Tim to buy a HD DVD player fund. We'll raise you the money to buy one. You don't have to buy any HD DVD movies, just use the machine to up convert your library.
I have a paypal account set up, to send money to you Tim. If this is ok by you I'll give you the paypal e-mail address for you guys to donate!

Jesus....Somebody get this guy a bu-ray player or something....I was not aware that an electronic device could cure all the worlds ills, and promote world peace.
(we'll see how he really feels when it loses that new car smell)
